Immigration Issue

For those that think there is a need for immigrants to pick our fruits and vegetables and that is a necessity may not realize that there is technology called harvesting robots. These machines can detect when crops need to be picked or harvested. They are expensive and why current farmers are not interested in purchasing because human labor is still cheaper and most may be in fear of technology, but imagine if the product was made affordable by the government or provided to farmers combating the need for migrant workers to come here to work...that would throw off a whole chain of events, however it is one solution...

If technology is our future, then why isn't this getting more press and more push...we have all heard it for decades that only migrant workers will pick our fruits and vegetables and citizens will not do that type of work...a poppycock kind of statement that is unfounded and untrue, but let's say it is true...doesn't automation take care of that...if implemented, how many immigrants does it keep from coming here??? There is an estimated 2.1 million immigrants that help supply our food chain....that's a hefty number and a lot to keep track of and how many more may be undocumented and here working without a visa...I would bet that number is much much greater... Technology, what is it good for if it is not being used to assist in solving problems...this is one avenue that should be heavily pursued...eliminate this need for people to come here by implementing this and help farmers get the technology https://howtorobot.com/expert-insight/harvesting-robots

 Have you ever lived in a farming community? I have. Farmers there lived high off the hog due to hefty government subsidies. Those same farmers also laughed off attempts by scientists who pitched crops that would use half as much water and more profit (sorghum instead of cotton). Why? These farmers had no reason to deviate from what their predecessors did (except for a 50-year water war). 

Those farmers who did reinvest hefty subsidies into farming equipment had problems using the technology correctly, and it was incredibly expensive to fix. Ever heard of a farmer falling asleep at the wheel of a mostly-automated John Deere that cost $125,000? I have, numerous times, because at some point it deviates from the route and runs into a road.

TL, DR: I am highly skeptical real life farmers would adopt this technology.

 Oh absolutely it is on the rise, and has been for quite some time in many ways.

Around 1900 1 in maybe 6 folks had an agriculture-type job.  That is way down now.

Robotics and machinery are certainly replacing human labor in many ways and it is due to costs.

But this is the case in many labor markets.  It is not due to just the illegals.  This is simply good for production and business.  You see this in factories and even in fast food now.

But the good thing is there are jobs needed to service the machines and make the machines and program and design them.

Always will be innovations and advancements and folks have to come along or be left behind.

As far as 'living high off the hog' I would go back and look at the debts they incurred and the suicide rate increase.  Then realize how many of those farmers were forced to sell out to the big corporations.  There are not nearly as many farmers nowadays.  Most are certainly not doing great still.

NEW: In overnight DOJ filing, Feds confirm that the TX National Guard “has deployed armed soldiers and vehicles to block federal gov from accessing the river” in Eagle Pass, & TX informed them no BP agents will be allowed to enter Shelby Park “in any operational capacity”. This is a significant escalation by Texas after Feds fought to remove TX water barriers and razor wire, & DOJ is suing TX over its new border security law. This is potentially setting up to be the biggest state vs federal fight in a very long time.

Wonder why so much effort is being put in if there is no border crisis...

Reminds me a lot of why the Great Wall of China was built and is still standing.....although we may not be at war with these migrants, they are certainly bringing it to us...it is a form of war just not with weaponry....it does make me wonder if a properly constructed wall, like the great Wall of China, would work...I mean the Mongols were a much more vicious and tenacious people than little ol' Lolita from Colombia...that wall has only been around for 2000+ years...should make everyone wonder if it could work here...we also should start treating this like we are being attacked and get serious about how we are going to combat this attack on our country....gimmie something instead of what's in front of us now...

WASHINGTON (TND) — Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., called out his Democratic colleagues Thursday for their resistance to border security negotiations.

In an interview with Politico, the Pennsylvania senator said his colleagues need to recognize the importance of addressing the crisis at the southern border

“I hope Democrats can understand that it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border,” Sen. Fetterman said. “It’s a reasonable conversation, and Democrats should engage.”

The senator cited the roughly 270,000 migrant encounters at the border in September. There were a record 2.47 million encounters the past fiscal year.

“Honestly, it’s astonishing. And this isn’t a Fox News kind of statistic. This is the government’s,” Fetterman told Politico. “You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border.”

I haven't met anyone that can have a really crisp, cogent solution or easy solution on, ‘Well, what do you do when you have roughly a city similar in size of Pittsburgh coming up to the border?’” Sen. Fetterman said.

I for one, am pleasently surprised with Fetterman. Had this vision of a hollow shell rubber stamping what was put in his ear. Not so it seems.

IMO, the wall would be more symbolic than functional.

It would say, You can't just walk in. We have laws and limits on how many can join us. Follow the lawful path to have a chance of citizenship. 

History shows China great wall failed to keep out Mongol invasion.  Ditto for south border barriers build by Bush, Obama and Trump administrations.  Despite tough law enforcement on immigration, no administration has complete control over immigration.  For decades, congress has failed to implement immigration reforms.  So there has been little change in policies while immigration fluctuates over time.  Courts have ruled that migrants aren't invaders under the law.

Would they have the same opinion if those said invaders were sleeping on their lawn and infiltrating their schools or were in their cities doing who knows what...

The true definition of invader is a person or group that invades a country, region, or other place....I think that is clearly happening now...those that are being let in, no, but those that are not being let in are definitely invaders...question is, how do you distinguish between the two??? Hell at this point, why not let them sleep on the White House lawn...there's enough room and that way the government can keep an eye on them...if they aren't harming anyone I can't think of a better place for them to be...the White House and the migrants can all be together wearing their snuggies and eating popcorn and watching movies together....maybe the movie A Day Without a Mexican would be prudent...remember, no one is above the law so let's invite them to the White House lawn and account for them....it's just wasted lawn space right...

This is an interesting confrontation. Texas Gov Greg Abbott has a ton of public support from both Republicans and Democrats to openly defy Joe Biden and the US Supreme Court. If Joe Biden does nothing, it looks like the weak President that he is. If Joe Biden sends in the FBI and massive numbers of Federal agents, he looks like he is trying to open the borders and assist an illegal invasion ... during an election year. There is no winning move here for Joe Biden.

Because Texas Gov Greg Abbott has invoked Article 1, Section 10, Clause 3 ... other states are now able to enter into agreements with Texas to help repel the invasion that Texas is dealing with. Other states may now send troops and/or equipment to aid in halting in the border invasion.

Under US constitution, supreme court has repeatedly ruled in favor of federal government right to handle immigration matters.  Under the law, migrants aren't invaders.  Being an illegal migrant isn't a crime.  Presidents operate under laws and funding from congress.

What does this statement help achieve in this discussion?  You have already stated it previously.  There have now been unprecedented developments since SCOTUS ruling.  

Please provide something relative to the new developments instead of just regurgitating the same old cut & paste job.
