Both teams are balanced on offense. That said, QB and line are distinct advantage to the Noles. But where the true difference is: Nole defense is far superior to Canes. FSU has playmakers everywhere, and the Cane secondary is going to prove porous. This will be a blowout (Style points may be needed for BCS purposes), unless Jimbo calls off the dogs.

Although he is an athlete, remains to be seen whether or not Mauk is a QB. Reports had him pushing Franklin for the starting job in the spring, now he gets the chance to step up. It helps that he's at home, got his feet wet last week, and has talent alongside in the backfield. This is a very big game in Mizzou's eyes; a real chance for validation after having dispatched a crippled Georgia team. I am a Gator, but the list of intangibles (for me) have me leaning Mizzou. GL to all.

To follow on, I think the the two weeks is especially important when you have a strong coaching staff, which both A&M and Boise have, imho.

Something to consider regarding both the A&M and Boise games is that both have had 2 weeks to prep for their opponent. A&M has seen Ole Miss offensive scheme and while porous, their defense
will have 2 weeks to prepare v. a team that has been through 2 tough games. Boise also is familiar with Utah State, though certainly things changed regarding their game planning once Chuckie went down. It's obvious this isn't a boise team up to Peterson's standards, especially on defense, but having 2 weeks to prep is an advantage.

Excellent write up as always. Don't post often, but when on this site use your thread as a reference. Like a lot of what was said here so far, just would caution the WKU play. Navy off another bye week, and was on the road v. an Indiana team that poses many of the same problems WKU does, only a bit stronger team IMHO. Navy was clearly the better team that Saturday, and I think they will be again this coming Saturday. Middies' defense improved from last year, particularly the secondary, and Reynolds is the real deal at QB, probably the best signal caller, passer and pure triple option reader Navy has had in quite sometime, and he just doesn't turn the ball over.
just my .02. Thanks, and continued gl.

By the way, thanks for the notes...well done. On games that I followed I agree with your assessments. It'd be great if you could keep up this practice.

Pease went to G8R land. Expect Florida O to round into form by mid season. For what it's worth, 24-16 Gators next week.

to Letsmakemoney:
Can you say "Charlie Strong"? It may be college, but the principle's the same. Having coordinators that know the inner workings of a program (that essentially hasn't changed since their departure) is invaluable. Not saying it'll make the difference, but it certainly is an advantage

Just some food for thought:
1. Oft times, in games like this, intel can be of great importance. Note that both the O and D coordinators for Niners were on the Ravens staff as recent as 2009. They know the personnel and base packages and tendencies on both sides of the ball. 2. Teams that have kept Niner running game in check have used 4/3 base defense; even woeful Falcon run D did a good job of bottling up Kap and the edge (though Gore did his job and then some). Ravens run a hybrid 3/4; you have to have fast OLB to contain in the same fashion as the 4/3, and that may be a problem for the Ravens. 3. Of the last 7 Ravens games, only 2 teams have had a pass D in the top 20 NFL teams, and the Ravens lost one of those games (to include playoff games). Though raw, Kap is a very poised, mature QB completing 65+% of attempts. Granted, Raven secondary is savvy, so this will be a good test for both. Certainly there are points that favor Baltimore (experience, special teams, kicking game), but as noted above there are a few points to consider that may give you pause if you're a Ravens backer. BOL

The reason I look at the boys from Canoe U as a score better is because of Navy's new-found ability to put the ball in the air (thanks, plebe) and Army's poor performance on pass d. Both will run, and move the rock with ball-control intent, but the quick strike will prove to be the difference this year in Navy's favor.

IMHO 7 is a good number. Value can be found in the total; unless turnovers yield quick scores/short fields, under is the play. Navy is a score better than the Black Knights this year. Still, both teams have a tendency to put the ball on the ground so that may dictae the outcome. Sounds a bit like a cop-out to use turnovrs as such a big determining factor, but if you look at past results, it's hard not to reach that conclusion. GL all. |

Think this an under game. OSU coming off a bye and fresh will stack the box and make inexperienced Wisky QB beat them over the top, which I din't think will happen. WIsky is stout v. the run, and will do a pretty good job of containing Miller, but better QB will prevail. OSU and the under the play.

Middies' poor record to date is due in part to shooting themselves in the foot: 10 turnovers in 3 games is not a recipe for success. The ground game is still very productive, and SJSU can be run on. Add to that a fair pass defense thus far and the boys from Canoe U may tally one in the win column this weekend, if they can stop putting the ball on the ground. They've been a good fade, but agree it's time to back them, imho. |

Agree with you, 23. It'll be strength v. strength when Tech "o' goes against Hokie "d". Real question comes down to how Thomas and Hokie "o" fare against Jacket "d". Both units have real questions on the line; while serviceable in the defensive backfield, Jacket linebacking corp is untested. As you'd mentioned, Hokie receivers are young, as is the backfield. One more thing to mention: kicking/special teams. While this is a legacy at Va. Tech, could it be the Jackets have an edge here? Hokis lost their scholarship kicker, and Jackets hired a special teams assistant that's supposed to be pretty sharp to shore an obvious weak link last year, and their kicker is very reliable. Field position and field goals could prove to be valuable in a game like this. I agree the under is way to go. |

Check Pats record when they've had 2 weeks to prepare for an opponent. Not stellar. See Brady performance v Ravens D with lots of pressure. Not good. Certainly the road to the Super Bowl has been more of a test for Gmen that the Pats. And check Pats performance laying chalk in playoffs. That said, all the hype surrounding New york scares me. With his quips and sly grin throughout the week of interviews, does Hoodie have a few tricks up his sleeve? Have they been sandbagging Ocho all season just for this stage (certainly a reach)? I think this is a very tight play, as the line would suggest, and it will come down to turnovers, or maybe a big special teams return play (a guy in the Gmen arsenal). I see 27-23 Giants, but could go either way. BOL....

This looks a lot like Auburn-Miss State earlier in the year to me. Neither team has a real advantage at the QB position. Trotter is more seasoned, but either Gator QB poses a running threat that Trotter doesn't. Difference in the game being the Gators will challenge the Auburn run harder than the Bulldogs did (the Bama and LSU games aside), and the Gators have more speed on both sides of the ball than Miss State. Lean UF here.

Even when they were up v Nebraska, I did not see a lot of confidence/emotion from the Buckeye team. I saw more from Fickle during the OSU implosion that I did the whole team. Begs the question if they're already mailing the season in...

Gotta think both teams force QB's to beat them through the air by stuffing the box. Not very familiar with Miller, but a true freshman on the road in a conference game is tough to trust. Not familiar with the Illinois venue. Is it a tough place to play?

Thanks for the input. Word in G'ville years ago was Zook was good in the living room, but it obviously didn't translate to the field. I don't get the sense that Illinois will be able to move the ball all that well v OSU defense, so to me it boils down to the anemic Buckeye O v Koenning's defense.
