Bad
referee calls? They have always existed; they are part of the game as
much as a touchdown is part of football. Being a referee is not an easy
job
because the pressure is enormous: The cameras, the press, the fans,
players who are twice your size and are mad...you name it. Under those
circumstances you are prone to make mistakes. It´s easy to trash talk a
referee from the stool of a sports bar or from
your comfy living room couch, but for 99% of us we have to admit that
if we were in the referee´s shoes we would do a dismal job. But there are bad calls that make it to the sports history books. The infamous call that resulted in the controversial win of the Seahawks over the Packers last Monday probably made it to the top 10 worst calls in football. Everybody was understandably mad about the whole issue. It was obvious that the replacement referee didn´t know the rules. The TV presenters keep replaying the video over and over and everyone who is famous gave his opinion. But for the linemakers the perspective was different. Seattle was an underdog and this bad call represented an opportunity for easy cash that many books, including the most respected ones in Las Vegas, didn´t hesitate to take. The trading management at Global.Sportsbook.com took a different path and sided with the bettors who felt wronged and decided to refund all losing spread wagers at the sametime that paid that game´s winning wagers. The Sportsbook.com Trading Director Russ Candler said: “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing; the whole world was laughing at the on field decision. The punters got mugged – I can’t stand winning unfairly so I am going to give the punters their money back. It’s the right thing to do.” This decision surprised many, including a Canadian football fan who tweeted about it and generated a viral response that eventually attracted the attention of the New York Times , CBS Sports , The Bleacher Report and many other news outlets. I can assure that it´s not nice for any company to make a hard decision about losing profit. Sportsbooks are businesses like any other. They have to pay bills and they´re online to make money, but it looks like doing the right thing, even if it involves losing money, is very good for business. I guess the old Twain´s 19th century quote still applies today and you can even apply it to sports betting: Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest. |

With the addition of Dwight Howard, the Lakers jump to the top of the contention list. It will require injuries to both Kobe and Howard to prevent them from winning a title this year

lol....yea the people they signed now like Kidd, Thomas and Camby are a bit too old for signing multi-year contracts with...Nash is an exception I think so Lakers got a steal there...
Stock fell by 8.5% since the Lin drama began but I still think it was the right decision to make on the Knicks part, it is dead season for the NBA right now, maybe had something to do with the stock or so many other factors....We shall see in the near future how this plays out... |

I agree, even though they only one one title, it is one too many for me :)
What Nash does for the Lakers is spread the floor, something they weren't able to do for a while and this will create the space for higher % shots...they have enough fire power to take advantage of that in Bryant, Bynum, Gasol and now Jamison...MWP is still a solid defender...I think the Lakers can be very strong this year |

As much as people say they are a team of elderly men, lets not underestimate this group (look what the Spurs did this season)...
With Nash and Jamison now in the mix as well, it doesn't matter much anymore if Howard comes to L.A. or not...Metta is being kept as a solid defender and they should finally have all the scoring punch they lacked off the bench with the acquisition of Jamison...Nash will create the spacing and with Kobe, Bynum and Gasol on the floor as well this team becomes a match up nightmare for anyone... Kobe gets his 6th ring this year... |

Yes in a sense of connecting back with their Asian audience the Rockets hit a jackpot....
Marbury was just a disaster in NY no matter how much he was getting paid |

Lin and Knicks don't go hand in hand together like Jordan and Bulls....That is just a plain wrong comparison...also I think the fact that he verbally agreed on a $20million deal and when the Knicks said they will match and he went back to negotiate for more and got another $5 million, that was absolutely unprofessional of him, but hey we all want to get paid so maybe we would do the same in that position. Either way I think we agree that Lin has a better chance in Houston and the Knicks dont really have any use for him, hence playing around with his contract, trying to trade him, etc. just isn't worth the time they would have to put into that...
txtechpika Lin didn't play in the playoffs because he was at 85%, which is probably the dumbest thing a Harvard Grad could've said...he bailed on his team to get more money |

shaps17 I agree with you, those two player to take up $50million in contracts is ridiculous...
Paidonjok I see it differently...1st of NYK along with the Lakers are the two most profitable teams in the league for years already, this considering the fact that the Knicks haven't made it into the playoffs for years before this past season...They just signed a cable deal as well worth a few hundred million... The team was also regardless of what happened would always be structured around Melo and this is already proven that Lin can not shine with Melo on the floor...To waste $40 million on that 3rd year for a guard that might not even make it to his 3rd year in the league with that teams structure is ludicrous. I wish Jeremy the best but in my eyes this was a wise decision for NY and also a very good career path for Jeremy as in Houston he will be a #1 or #2 option where as in on the Knicks squad he drops to 4-5th... |

Cannon88 sorry for the typo, Russia is at (+4000), that is why I look at them as best value on a bet since they gave the states a tough time last time they met...But for sure it is US first and Spain 2nd....as of now

Its easy to trash the Knicks and all that but which one of us wouldn't think about an extra $40million bill for a player who has 35 games on his resume, as soon as he got handed heavy minutes he got injured, completely shut down by the Heat and after agreeing to $20million went back to the negotiating table to get more....I agree with the Knicks decision to let him walk...good luck to Jeremy but he will never be what some people are saying he will (Nash, Paul, Rose, etc).

With the Olympics right around the corner let’s take a look at some of the premier events and rivalries this year. As usual it will be basketball, athletics and swimming taking center stage with so many headlines around the world about Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and the USA men’s basketball squad. The Olympic Committee could not have asked for any better scenario for these Olympic games that will be held in London, with drama and heartbreak written all over them. Let’s start off with running sensation and world record holder Usain Bolt. He has taken the world by storm after looking like a man running against young children at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He managed to beat his own world records and brought massive media attention to the sport of running by being a very flamboyant and attention seeking star athlete. Well four years later Bolt is far from a lock to win the 100m and 200m sprints after being beaten by fellow countryman Yohan Blake in both of those events at Jamaica’s Olympic Trials last week. At the same time the times posted by the runners were far off from the record breaking pace Bolt achieved at the ’08 games so if he gets his act together he is still the man to beat on the track. As it stand right now he is marked at (-133) to win the 100m race with Blake not too far behind at (+150). Their closest competitor in the eyes of book keepers is Tyson Gay who is a distant (+1200). Will be interesting to see if Bolt’s star diminishes this year at the hands of his training partner or was he just having fun at the trials and will bring his A game to the games? Swimming is all about Phelps and Lochte being tied up in a bitter rivalry these days. After winning a record 8 gold medals at the 2008 games, Phelps has fallen off the map for some time. In the past 2 years he has been constantly beaten by Lochte in his premier events most recently at the US Olympic swimming trials earlier this month where Lochte (-181) edged out Phelps (+135) in the 400m IM by a few hundredths of seconds. Lochte established himself as a formidable swimming force and Phelps knows this, to give himself more chances at beating Larisa Latynina’s all-time medal count record which has stood since 1964 at 18 total medals he made the decision to only participate in 7 events at the Olympics despite qualifying for 8. Phelps total medal count stands at 16 right now. Also making headlines is of course the USA men’s basketball roster which has been announces last weekend. After bearing injuries to Dwight Howard, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh and Derrick Rose the Americans are still boasting a very talented and athletic squad. It is highlighted by LeBron, Kobe, Durant and Carmelo. This is also the first time that a single Olympic team had three NBA teammates on it with the additions of Russell Westbrook and James Harden. As always the US team (-625) is a heavy favorite but this squad is very different from the one that won the gold in Beijing. The lack of depth at the center makes this the “smallest” team the Americans sent to the Olympics in recent memory. Nevertheless they are confident on winning by taking advantage of the versatility of this squad. With LeBron, Durant and Carmelo being able to play all 5 positions and Tyson Chandler the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the year at the helm, the Americans are still a matchup nightmare for the rest of the world. The only other team that boasts almost as much talent as them is Spain (+600) with Serge Ibaka, the Gasol brothers and Rudy Fernandez coming to play. Ricky Rubio will be out of the competition due to injury. The team that will have the best value on them is Russia (+400) as they gave US team the most trouble at the world championships in 2010 so they are the dark horse in the tournament that could land you a big payoff. At the end I personally would not bet against the Americans since this is most likely the last year NBA superstars will be allowed to play in the Olympics and the college kids will be participating in future competitions instead. I am sure this puts an extra chip on the shoulder for these stars to win the gold. Phelps should beat the total medal record held by Latynina but will it be with gold’s or is he going to be looking up at Lochte from the podium in some events? Bolt of course has much to prove to the world that he is still the world’s fastest man or his fame will take a sizeable hit for sure. Either way these games should prove to be one of the most entertaining in recent years and at the same time profitable ones for the bettors. London 2012, let the games begin!!! |

It has only been a couple of weeks since Nadal won a record setting 7th French Open title but we are already starting off another historic Grand Slam tournament when the Wimbledon begins this week in London. Our men’s world No. 1 Novak Djokovic (-625) who is also last year’s Champion here in London has a daunting task in front of him. After the draw on Friday, Novak arguably has the toughest road to conquer in order to repeat as champion at the famous London courts. He will open up his title defense against Juan Carlos Ferrero (+40000) who is the former No. 1 player and 2003 French Open Champion, a chump by no means with such achievements on his resume. Djokovic is also bound to meet the 2012 finalist Tomas Berdych (+600) in the quarterfinals if he makes it that far, a match that would be followed by a game against the 6 time champion Roger Federer (-400). If that were to happen then it would be the 6th Grand Slam semifinal between the two in the last eight, with Djokovic sporting a 4-1 lead in their clashes. So if Djokovic is to win the Wimbledon Trophy this year, it will be more than deserved. Other like Rafael Nadal (-277) and Andy Murray (-117) who got an Olympic team nod earlier) were in the bottom of the draw and their tournament is shaping up to be a bit less challenging than that of Novak. On the women’s side it will be the new No. 1 Maria Sharapova (+280) who will compete against Anastasia Rodionova in the first round while last year’s women’s winner Petra Kvitova (+600) will be going against Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan. The Venus sisters are also both competing with No. 6 Serena (+300) poised to meet No. 4 Kvitova in the quarterfinals. Her sister Venus (+2500) while battling autoimmune disease will play Elena Vesnina of Russia and then could possibly clash with No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska (+5000) in the second round. This is shaping up to be quite a field of competitive matches for this year’s Wimbledon so make sure to take advantage of our 50% add-on to winning parlay bets on all tennis matches throughout the duration of Wimbledon 2012. Odds provided for the men’s side are for bets on the “play to win quarter” market Odds provided for the women’s side are for bets on the “outright winner” market |

They could have at least made it less obvious...I dunno, give OKC some money to make it look believable instead of letting the refs side with Miami to the extent that it looked like it was a bunch of middle school kids out there making calls and blowing whistles...

Blown calls, bad business decisions and controversy are one thing, but being so disrespectful to people who cover your industry and not allowing teams to do what the rules state they could allow to do just because it doesn't serve your best purpose (the laker, CP3 trade) is another...
I think he is terrible and that is my opinion...The league should be about the game and its players and not the commissioner!!! ONly way to stop that thought is for the owners to boot him out, which they probably wont because Stern did do a stellar job in the beginning of his career, he shoudlve just left when time was right instead of over doing it... |
