Well I read that Hamilton would be considered a first time violator because his other suspensions were prior to 2004 and as a minor leaguer. Given his struggles a slap on the wrist and placement in the drug program might not get through to him. I hope that he can pull it together but it seems like the demons run awfully deep with him.

He has been summoned to New York for a meeting with The MLB offices. The Angels aren't commenting to the nature of the issue. Ken Rosenthal spoke with an unnamed rival executive who he asked if it was PED related and his answer was "worse". Sounds like Josh may have fallen off the wagon again and given his past this could get real ugly for him.

It might be a case of me buying when everyone's selling but I think the Reds will creep over the number. I am not saying they are going to the playoffs but Cuerto/Bailey (Likely to be held back a bit early), Leake Cingrani and Desclafini has some potential to be better than many think. I think Votto will bounce back nicely, as will Jay Bruce, and Bird should ht well in that park as well as long as he can continue to hold off father time. Mesoraco behind the plate and a declining but still decent Phillips and I don't think it is a huge stretch for them to be an 81 win team.

Key: Seeing how Myers is just entering his age 24 season I certainly would not write him off. Forget the award in 2013, the numbers he put were very nice for a 22 year old kid. If the injury is behind him, he will hit. Perhaps not as many fingers p,aging in the NL West but he will hit. That was still too big of a price the Royals paid for Shields in my opinion but I can see your side to that deal as well.

Almost no doubt that he plays all year in the minors, perhaps a September call up if he tears up the minors, but this kid is just 19. Everything I have read says this kid is a stud with most saying he would have been number 1 pick in the draft if he had to go that route. I think it's a great move by the Red Sox, so what if you can't sign much internationally the next 2 years, this kid has what is being deemed as game changing talent. They will find a place for him to play and use some other assets has trade material at the deadline for the starting pitching they will sorely need, assuming they are still in the race at that time.

I was also all for this from the beginning. Why anyone thinks a 3rd blown call shouldn't be able to be challenged was beyond me.

I really do love the Cubs team and what they are doing I just think they are 1 year away. 2016 I believe they overtake the Cardinals, but they will be fun to follow and see how the kids develop this year. Cubs, Padres, Mariners, Blue Jays and Rangers are teams that have me interested in seeing how they play out this year.

We are in agreement on most as I would suspect. Our differences:
Cubs Reds White Sox Indians I think the oddsmakers did a really nice job setting numbers this year. Last year a few jumped out as instant plays, this year not nearly as many.

Ladies and Gentleman I present to you in CF for the Braves, Melvin...
in MLB Betting
Upton Jr. He has decided to go by his given name. He went from a BJ to a Melvin. What he really he needs is to be out of the league, but the Braves love paying 8 figure salaries to guys that turn out to play with DFA talent. This name change just cracked me up.

It was before you were born Packers but the last guy to be hyped as much as Harper before he played a game that I recall was Gregg Jeffries......Harper has ability but his pitch recognition is not very good and he can pitched to effectively. He would need to make a big step forward and stay healthy to get to 30......I like the chances of you keeping your hair.

Agreed Sparky, the contract with has occurred the last couple off seasons went from prohibitive to potentially having some value, but the Phillies the last I had read were looking for 4 prospects in return. I would suspect the asking price would include one of Betts/Bogarts, Henry Owens, Blake Swihart and perhaps a lower level guy. No way Boston would do anything like that but this is why Ruben Amaro can't move anybody, he asks for too much and ends up doing nothing. The Sox have the farm system to make a deal happen, but it just depends if the Phillies wan to be reasonable or would rather keep paying the contract for a couple of dead rebuilding years.

I think Jackie Bradley's future is that he will be nothing more than a fringe player who winds up on someone's bench for speed and defense. He seems to be just another in a long list of 'tools' prospects that never will develop a true major league bat. Sure he is still young and things could change, but his swing his horrible and he was so overmatched at the plate last year it would take quite the remarkable transformation. I see him as another Cameron Maybin as a ceiling and a minor league signee with major league invites to spring training as just as likely a future. I don't see any way he sees meaningful playing time this season. I suspect that the Sox OF will wind up Hanley in LF, Castillo in CF and a battle in Right that I think Betts will get first crack at holding down the position. You then have Victorino as the 4th OF. Barring injury I see 5th OF or the minor leagues for him, if guys who follow Boston closer have more insight, please feel free to correct me if I am wrong or add some additional insight.

The hitters out of the box every pitch adjusting their over abundance of body armor and the Velcro on both gloves does irritate me at times as well. Get in the box and hit.

Yeah I don't question your fan hood at all Kevin, which is why I used the word majority. I think you are in the minority on the length of games as far as diehard fans and paying customers go, just as I suspect I am in the minority in not wanting or caring for more scoring....

I have no problem with the strike zone returning to the pre 1996 definition. I don't think more scoring equals more excitement in baseball but I am probably in the minority. I have a true appreciation for the nuisances of the game and much prefer a well played, well pitched game than a 10-9 slugfest. A smaller strike zone would not be good for overs, the linesmakers would adjust quickly and have it fine tuned in short order. If anything they might over adjust at first and the unders could be gold. Look at NFL totals, how many 37's do you see now compared to 5, 10, 15 years ago?
A pitch clock is the worst idea ever. I can't imagine many players at all supporting the idea and it is just plain dumb. Let's try having the batters stay in the box like the old days and enforce existing rule 8.04 which is a 12 second time limit to throw a pitch with nobody on base before we start tinkering with the fabric of the game. A guy like Max Scherzer who uses varying lengths of time to hold runners would be neutralized by runners who know when the ball must be delivered to either the base or home. Once they figure out when he is going home they have a gigantic advantage. Dumb Dumb idea. Hitters can go along ways to eliminating the shift by hitting the ball where the fielders are not positioned. Take the swinging bunt to the side where there is no fielder. Hit the mistake pitch to the vacated areas.... I still don't get why some are just so insistent on shortening the game. The NFL is a 60 minute timed game with often more than 30 seconds between plays that takes 3 hours to complete. Judging by attendance and local tv ratings, many of the paying customers don't seem to mind the length of games. I think the majority of people that complain about the length of games are like the people in the 90's who screamed about the fighting and violence in hockey, they weren't fans and were never going to be, they just wanted to complain.

If i had to play all 5: Give me Cuerto at plus money in both and Kershaw laying the wood. And I will take Wainwright at that price as well.

Martinez is getting old at the same rate as the rest of us, one day at a time. He is going to be ready sometime in April and perhaps for Opening Day as stated by the Tigers.
He is coming of is best season ever. The question with him will be if the power was an abberation or are more home runs the new normal for him. I certainly dont expect him to repeat last year but as long as he continues to treat each at bat like a war and gives a line at his career averages, which certainly seems reasonable, the Tigers will be happy and the line up will compete every single day.

In the Crappy AL Least with the shaky state of the rotations anything is possible but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath either. Betts has great minor league numbers and impressed in a small major league sample. But let's also remember this guy is 5 ft 9 155. Handiing the grind of a full MLB season, now that there is also some MLB data on him, I don't see him with his .900 plus OPS numbers he sported in the minors and think he is being overhyped a bit. Remember this is the same franchise who said Jackie Bradlely was gonna hit and just watching him I could see that was a long ways from ever happening, if ever.

Very nice offseason for the Padres. A 200 inning plus horse who has been a solid 2 moving to the NL West, exactly what the Padres needed. This deal has the potential to work out nicely for both the player and the squad and the Padres are now legit post season contenders as far as I am concerned.
