Angels vs Yankees Predictions, Picks, Odds: Offenses Sputter in Series Finale

Both the Angels' and Yankees' pitching staffs have been highly effective in this series, and our MLB betting picks don't anticipate the bats getting the edge in the Thursday afternoon finale.

The Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees wrap up a three-game series Thursday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. ET.

The Angels posted a 5-2 victory in the opener on Tuesday, while Wednesday’s game resulted in a 3-2 win for New York in extra innings.

The Yankees enter play with a rather subpar 7-5 home record (at least by the Bombers’ lofty standards), while the Angels have posted a respectable 6-6 road mark.

Will the Angels be able to win the rubber game, or will the Yankees secure the home series win? We’ll discuss in our MLB picks and predictions for Angels vs. Yankees on Thursday, April 20.

Angels vs Yankees predictions

The Angels fell behind 2-0 in the first inning on Wednesday, which hadn’t been a good thing lately in games involving the Yankees. In fact, the team taking a 2-0 lead in the past four games involving the Yankees had been 0-4. Los Angeles ended that weird trend.

The Yankees snapped a seven-game losing streak against the AL West with Wednesday’s victory. They head into this one with five consecutive wins in Game 3 of a series.

The wind will be blowing in from right to left at an 8-12 mph clip at Yankee Stadium, and that could knock the ball down, much to the pleasure of the two left-handed starting pitchers — Patrick Sandoval and Nestor Cortes

Sandoval is off to a solid start, earning the win in his season opener by limiting the A’s to one run and two hits over five frames. He took a no-decision in each of his last two efforts, but scattered one earned run over 9 2/3 combined frames while amassing eight strikeouts.

Cortes is fresh off his first quality start of the year — a seven-inning, two-run gem against the Twins with seven Ks. His WHIP on the year is just over 1.00.

In this battle of southpaws, with the winds whipping a little bit in a negative way for the batters, I think runs are going to be at a premium for this series finale.

The Under has cashed at a 7-1-1 clip in the past nine against a left-handed starter for the Halos, while going a perfect 4-0 in the past four on the road vs. LHPs.

Angels vs Yankees moneyline analysis

The Angels have had difficulty handling the twig against left-handed starting pitchers, winning just twice in the past seven against southpaws, while going just 2-9 in the previous 11 on the road vs. lefties. L.A. is also just 9-21 in the past 30 road games against a team with a winning road record, and 9-26 in the past 35 against AL East foes.

For the home side, New York is only 4-10 in the past 14 against a left-handed starting pitcher overall, although the Bronx Bombers are an impressive 45-21 in the past 66 at The Stadium against southpaws. That’s good for a .682 winning percentage.

The Yankees ended up getting it done 3-2 in 10 innings in the second game of the series, bouncing back nicely after a series-opening loss.

Back the Yankees, and go at it hard in a parlay with the Under.

Angels vs Yankees Over/Under analysis

As it stands, the Under has cashed in four in a row for the Angels on the road against left-handed starting pitchers, while going 7-1-1 in the previous nine games overall against southpaws.

The Under is also 5-1 in the past six tries in Game 3 of a series for the Angels, while cashing at a 9-3 clip in the past 12 games on a Thursday, for whatever that’s worth.

Additionally, the Under is 5-2 in the past seven games on the road for the Halos, while going 6-2-1 in the past nine games overall.

As far as the Yankees are concerned, the Under is a perfect 5-for-5 in the previous five tries against a left-handed starting pitcher, while going 4-1-1 in the past six against a lefty.

Once the starters are out, a pair of top-notch bullpens will take over. New York owns an MLB-best 2.13 ERA on the season, while L.A. is seventh with a 2.94 ERA.

Angels vs Yankees betting preview

Starting pitchers

Patrick Sandoval (1-0, 1.23 ERA): The southpaw makes his fourth start of the season. He has been hot so far, and he has managed a 1-0 record with a 1.04 ERA and .152 opponent batting average in two road starts, while winning his only daytime start April 1 in Oakland with a run allowed over five innings.

Nestor Cortes Jr. (2-0, 2.60 ERA): The lefty lasted a season-high seven frames last time out, but he had the no-decision after winning his first two starts. Cortes has struck out 12 batters across the past two outings, and he has allowed two or fewer runs in each of his first three starts.
