Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Berrios to Silence Mariners

The Toronto Blue Jays host the Seattle Mariners in the second of a three-game set this afternoon.
The Jays successfully silenced the M’s lineup, limiting them to just one run on five hits, while striking out seven times in game one last night.
It’s really just been a continuation of Seattle’s offensive struggles this season, ranking 26th in the league in both hits per game (6.8) and team batting average (.212).
Couple that with Jose Berrios’ success against this lineup, and I expect the Jays to keep the Mariners' bats quiet once again, resulting in the Jays’ starter going deep into the game today.
Thus, making Over 17.5 outs my Blue Jays best bet.
Berrios has only gotten out of the sixth inning once this season, but I think he’s poised to do it for a second time tonight.
Firstly, the Jays' ace is far better at home than he is on the road. In his 15 outings at Rogers Centre last season, Berrios recorded 18 or more outs in 12 of his 15 home starts, one being against the Mariners, where he threw 6.2 shutout innings.
Berrios has actually fared well against Seattle throughout his career. He’s recorded 18+ outs in four of his last five outings against the Mariners, and throughout his career has held Seattle’s current lineup to a combined .207 batting average
I expect him to be dealing tonight and to make it through to the end of the sixth frame, which requires 18 outs to make that happen.

For the first leg of our SGP, we’ll stick with the best bet and take Berrios to get Over 17.5 outs tonight.
We’ll continue to roll with Berrios’ arm for the second leg of the SGP and take the Over on his strikeout total of 4.5. The Jays starter has surpassed this number in three of his four outings this season, averaging 5.25 K’s per game.
Additionally, Berrios has fanned the current M’s lineup 26 times in 87 plate appearances for a strikeout rate of 29.8%. Considering the Mariners have the 12th-highest strikeout rate in all of baseball to this point in the season, Berrios should be able to mow down this lineup.
Lastly, let’s bet the game to stay Under the total of 8.5 runs. The Under is a combined 23-15 between the two clubs. Moreover, it’s a battle of the aces on the mound tonight, meaning we should expect quite the pitching duel, which also would result in a lack of offence.
