The Colorado Rockies and Toronto Blue Jays finish off their three-game set today at Coors Field after splitting a couple of high-scoring matchups, with the clubs averaging 18.5 total runs in the series.
Jays starter Kevin Gausman and Rockies pitcher Chase Anderson will try to contain the bats, but based on how they’ve been trending, we could see another offensive explosion today.
Keep reading for our Blue Jays vs. Rockies MLB picks for Sunday, September 3.
Blue Jays vs Rockies odds
Blue Jays vs Rockies predictions
After the Toronto Blue Jays put up 13 runs in the series opener, the Colorado Rockies came back with an 8-7 win on Saturday, powered by three RBI-performances from Brenton Doyle and Charlie Blackmon.
It wasn’t a bad night offensively for the Jays, either, who saw five different batters record an RBI, including rookie Davis Schneider, who continued his hot streak.
Sunday’s ballgame is shaping up to be another high-scoring affair considering neither starter has really been on their A-game.
Kevin Gausman picked up the win for Toronto in his last start against Washington on August 28 but gave up seven hits and three earned runs over just three innings in the process. He’s also allowed at least three earned runs in three of his last five starts, giving up five to the Phillies three outings ago.
Rockies starter Chase Anderson hasn’t pitched since July 22 due to a shoulder injury but he was even worse when he was in the lineup. The right-hander gave up 3+ runs in seven of his last eight starts and 5+ runs in four of those contests.
With both clubs swinging the bats well and neither starter inspiring a ton of confidence, I’m taking the Over on 11.5 runs at the most hitter-friendly park in the majors.
My best bet: Over 11.5 (+101 at SIA)
Blue Jays vs Rockies same-game parlay
Over 11.5 (-110)
Davis Scheider to record 2+ total bases (-160)
Kevin Gausman to record 8+ strikeouts (+115)
Along with taking the Over on 11.5 total runs, we’ll focus on a couple of Blue Jays players in today’s same-game parlay.
Schneider has been a pleasant surprise for Toronto since joining the club in early August, ranking second on the team in RBI (14) and third in total bases (42) last month while batting an incredible .426. The second baseman has multiple bases in six of his last eight outings and should snag a couple more today.
Gausman hasn’t had his best stuff of late but still remains one of the best strikeout pitchers in the majors with 202 Ks over 155 1/3 innings.
The right-hander has recorded at least seven punchouts in seven of his last nine starts and is coming up against the Rockies, who strike out more than only two other clubs in the majors with 9.47 Ks per game. That said, I like Gausman to sit down at least eight batters today.

Blue Jays vs Rockies moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Blue Jays once again come into this game as the chalk, opening at -237 on the moneyline and climbing as high as -275 at some books by this morning. Everyone loves a good underdog pick but Toronto’s edge is too great to ignore.
Colorado’s win last night was more of a shock than anything as it was the hosts’ second victory in their last 12 games. Going back even further, the Rockies have a mere five wins over their last 22 contests.
Despite averaging 8.50 runs in this series, the Rockies had actually been slumping offensively with just 3.70 runs per game across their previous 10 contests and scoring more than four runs just twice over that span.
While I don’t necessarily expect the Blue Jays to hold them to just four runs today, there’s a fair chance the Rockies bats regress to the mean against Gausman.
Today’s total opened at 11.5 runs and as discussed above, I’m definitely going with the Over. Both the pitching matchup and the altitude at Coors Field should factor into plenty of runs, and we’ve also seen the Jays cash the Over in six of their last seven contests.

Starting pitchers
Kevin Gausman (10-8, 3,30 ERA): Gausman is coming off his worst month of the season after posting a 4.23 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP across five starts in August. The right-hander also saw his strikeout rate take a dip last month, recording eight Ks just once during that span.
Chase Anderson (0-4, 6.08 ERA): Anderson will need to shake off the cobwebs as he makes his first start in about six weeks. The right-hander struggled mightily leading up to his injury, making it through the fifth inning in just two of his last seven starts.
