Starting pitchers
Ian Anderson (7-5, 3.61 ERA): Anderson is coming off a nice performance against the Miami Marlins, as the righty struck out nine batters and gave up only two runs over five innings. It was a much-needed rebound for Anderson, who had allowed four runs on five hits in just three innings against the Colorado Rockies the start before. Anderson needs to do a better job of keeping the ball in the park, as he has allowed three homers over his last eight innings.
Logan Webb (10-3, 2.80 ERA): The Giants have won in 19 of Webb’s 23 appearances this year, which is really an unimaginable clip. The righty just consistently goes out there and puts San Francisco in good spots, as Webb has given up three or fewer earned runs in 21 of those 23 outings. However, the 24-year-old has given up eight runs over his last 13.0 innings of work, so he might be getting a little fatigued late in the year.

Moneyline pick
With Anderson coming into this game having struggled to prevent opposing hitters from going yard, this meeting with the Giants isn’t exactly one that looks good for him, on paper. Only two teams in the league have hit more home runs off of right-handed pitching than San Francisco has this season, and the team’s .450 slugging percentage against righties is also good for third in the league. If the power-hitting isn’t enough to convince you that this is a rough matchup, the Giants are also sixth in baseball in OBP against righties and fifth in OPS.
Also, while Anderson did beat the Giants in that last outing, it was a home start. Anderson is 4-1 when pitching in Atlanta this season, but he is just 3-4 on the road. Meanwhile, not many teams in the league are better on their own home field than San Francisco is, so this group will apply pressure on Anderson right from the first pitch.
Webb hasn’t been at his best in his two most recent starts, but he was dynamite when he pitched against the Braves on August 28. The righty threw seven innings of shutout ball and struck out six batters in the process. He’s also a perfect 5-0 with a 1.66 ERA in 10 home appearances this year, and his two mediocre outings in recent weeks came on the road.
Overall, this number just seems too good to pass on for one of the best teams in baseball. San Francisco’s lineup is as dangerous as anyone’s when facing righties, and Webb has already proven that he can shut down this Braves team.
PREDICTION: Giants ML (-155)
Over/Under pick
The Giants have a good opportunity to score some runs in this game. As previously mentioned, they love facing right-handed pitchers and they also feature a group of veterans that should be able to adjust to seeing Anderson for the second time this year. However, San Francisco likely won’t score seven or eight runs in this game, as Anderson doesn’t often get shelled like that.
At the same time, the Braves are going to struggle to hit Webb. He’s simply been too good when getting the opportunity to pitch at Oracle Park. This one seems like the type of game that will end with the Giants winning somewhere around 5-2, making the Under the safe play.
