The Marlins are playing some good ball at the moment, and after a couple of commanding victories in L.A., they will go for the sweep of the Angels on the road on Sunday. The man to deliver the dagger could be youngster Eury Perez, who has other-worldly talent and has pitched well so far in the majors.
Let’s break down Marlins vs. Angels in our MLB picks and predictions for Sunday, May 28.

Marlins vs Angels predictions
The Marlins are running hot right now with three wins in their last four games and have been getting power when they need it, mainly from Jorge Soler and his five homers in a five-game span. They now have the sixth-best wRC+ in baseball over the last two weeks and the second-best in the last week, coming in at 145.
Miami boasts a .176 ISO in the last seven days with a lower strikeout rate of 21.1% and a stellar .324 average, taking full advantage of some poor pitchers wearing Rockies and Angels uniforms.
I think there’s another one lining up here to face Miami, and that is Patrick Sandoval. He’s had good numbers in years past and good results the last few years, but the left-hander has posted a rough .265 expected batting average this season with a higher-than-normal 7.1% barrel rate.
With all this said, I have questions about Sandoval here and think the Marlins will take him to town with the way they’re swinging the bats. They rank seventh against lefties and have a stud on the mound, making them a good bet here.

Marlins vs Angels moneyline analysis
I’m generally a big fan of Eury Perez and will look to be an early investor in his success, which is why I like Miami so much here.
The leap from Double-A to the big leagues is a tough one, but Perez has shown he can still miss bats at this level after some dominant numbers in the minors, which included a 35.9% strikeout rate down at Double-A this year. He’s struck out 27.1% of the batters he’s faced, and while his opponents have been the Reds, Nationals and Rockies, this Angels team isn’t very good.
The Angels are 16th in wRC+ over the last two weeks and continue to be strikeout machines, punching out in nearly 26% of plate appearances. This is a rough matchup against one of the game’s brightest young pitchers.
Marlins vs Angels Over/Under analysis
I’d definitely side with the Over here if I had to pick a bet on the total.
Despite all the nice things I’ve said about Perez – and I do think he’ll have success here against the Angels – a start without any runs allowed would certainly be surprising for an inexperienced 20-year-old. The Angels do represent the best competition he’ll have had to face.
The Over has now cashed in three of the last four for the Marlins, and despite the fact that they’ve been Under-cashing machines, the Over is 11-11 when the Marlins are road underdogs this year.
Sandoval has also allowed at least three runs in each of his last three outings as he continues to regress to the mean, making the Over a decent wager as well.

Starting pitchers
Eury Perez (1-1, 3.86 ERA): The right-hander was the No. 7 prospect in baseball entering the season according to Baseball America and has pitched to a respectable 3.86 ERA through his first three big-league starts. He owned a 2.32 this year in Double-A.
Patrick Sandoval (3-3, 3.47 ERA): The left-hander has gone 1-2 with a 3.80 ERA in May, allowing three earned over just 4 2/3 innings in his most recent start. His 4.51 xERA suggests some regression is on the way.
