The best team in baseball, the New York Yankees, are hosting a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles. New York, however, is coming off a Sunday doubleheader sweep by the Chicago White Sox.
Baltimore completed a series win against the Tampa Bay Rays, where it took two of three. It has also won three of its last four. Both teams are sending their aces to the mound, but the trends suggest the Over will be in play.
Can the Yanks get back on the winning track or will the O's win the first of three in the Bronx? Find out in our free MLB betting picks and predictions for team Orioles vs. Yankees on May 23.

Orioles vs Yankees betting preview
Starting pitchers
Jordan Lyles (2-4, 4.11 ERA): Lyles was supposed to be the No. 2 on the Orioles staff but moved up a spot when John Means underwent Tommy John surgery. Lyles has performed well in the role but is suffering from a lack of run support. In his last game, against the Yankees, the right hander went seven innings, gave up three runs on five hits, and was tagged with the loss. In a start at the beginning of the month at home against Kansas City, Lyles went 7 1-3 innings, again gave up two runs, this time on seven hits, and walked away with a no-decision for his efforts.
Gerrit Cole (4-0, 2.89 ERA): After a shaky start to the season, where he allowed eight runs on nine hits and couldn’t get past the fifth inning in three games, the Yankees’ ace has been money. He has won four of his last five starts, with the other a no-decision. In that time, he has lowered his ERA from 6.35 to 2.89, allowing 22 hits and six runs in those five games. The last time Cole faced the Orioles was a week ago and he went seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs with five strikeouts.

Orioles vs Yankees picks and predictions
Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.
Run line analysis
It was a rough Sunday for the New York Yankees. They played a doubleheader in the Bronx with the Chicago White Sox and got swept. In those two games, they managed just one run, an Aaron Judge homer. They also had just three hits in the second game, getting blanked 5-0.
Now they host the Baltimore Orioles and send ace Gerrit Cole to snap the mini losing streak. The Yankees, who have the best record in baseball, are 6-3 against the Orioles this season. In those seven victories, they have won by more than two runs five times. They are also 10-2 in their last 12 games against American League East opponents.
One of the times they did not was last week when they faced Monday’s start Jordan Lyles. The 31-year-old righty pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits, but lost 3-2.
The Orioles are 23rd in batting with a .227 average. They are also 26th in RBI and 25th in runs. If they are going to win on Monday, they are going to have to give Lyles more support.
The moneyline on this game is ridiculous with the Yanks at -323. The spread is much more attractive at -135 and the Yankees have proven they can beat the O's by more than two runs.
Prediction: Yankees -1.5 (-135 at FanDuel)
Over/Under analysis
The Yankees are usually good for a bunch of runs, ranking sixth in the majors with 195 and averaging 4.75 runs per game. The Orioles are 25th in runs, averaging 3.5 per game. They are having to manufacture runs since they are 23rd in the league in homers.
If the total of 7.5 is going to go Over, the Yanks are going to have to do most of the heavy lifting. That shouldn’t be a problem, however. In the previous five victories over the Orioles, the Over has went 3-2.
New York will have to do it without two key players, as outfielder Joey Gallo and catcher Kyle Higashioka were put on the COVID-19 injured list. Gallo is fourth on the team with five home runs. Still, the Yankees have Judge (15 homers), Giancarlo Stanton (11), and Anthony Rizzo (10) to provide some offensive firepower.
They tend to come out swinging in the first game of a series, with the Over going 4-0 in New York's last four Game 1s of a series.
Prediction: Over 7.5 (+100 at BetMGM)
Best bet
Josh Donaldson had success against Jordan Lyles the last time the two faced each other. He got two singles off Lyles in the Yankees' 3-2 victory, with them being two of the five hits Lyles allowed.
Donaldson has been hitting much better as of late. A month ago he was hitting .182, but has bumped it up to .238. He has 31 hits on the season, 18 of those being singles. Being fifth in a strong lineup is also a benefit for the 36-year-old.
Expect Donaldson to get at least one hit off of Lyles on Monday, and don't be surprised if it's just a single bagger.
Pick: Josh Donaldson Over 0.5 singles (+130)
