Grizzlies vs Spurs Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

The Memphis Grizzlies are finally a bit healthier and have to be feeling good about splitting their last four against some quality opponents. 

With a matchup looming against the struggling San Antonio Spurs, my Grizzlies vs Spurs predictions highlight why the shooting tendencies of both teams should tilt this one in the visitors’ favor.

Let’s dig into my latest NBA picks for Wednesday, January 15.

My analysis

We have two teams here that have played polar opposite basketball of one another; the San Antonio Spurs have been buoyed by their defense of late, while the Memphis Grizzlies have taken a much more offensive-oriented approach.

Memphis has honed in on the mid-range this month, leading the NBA in attempts from that zone, while San Antonio has allowed the majority of shots to come from the rim and has been much more efficient at limiting looks from the outside.

And although the Spurs boast a Top-10 defensive efficiency this month, that may be a little flattering considering their recent run of losses — which includes three losses in their last four games. 

Meanwhile, Memphis has been great across the board in just about every shooting zone this month, and it’s done an excellent job defensively inside the arc. San Antonio has gone ice cold from downtown and hasn’t done a good enough job from any spot on the court to give me confidence in a turnaround tonight.  

When you consider that the Grizzlies are healthier and starting to make their mark on the glass, I'm riding with Memphis to cover this short line.

We highlighted the shortcomings of San Antonio’s offense above, but one man who’s been doing a good job of late is Chris Paul.

The veteran is now shooting a comfortable 40% from outside this month, having cashed two or more triples in three straight games. The future Hall-of-Famer will now take on a Grizzlies team ranked second-worst against the 3-pointer in January.  

Meanwhile, Jaren Jackson, Jr. has racked up eight or more boards in four of his last five starts, and the Grizzlies big man should take advantage of a matchup guarding Keldon Johnson — who loves to take the ball to the rim, which should get Jackson into plenty of rebounding opportunities.
