Heat vs Nets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

It's a tale of two struggling offenses as the Jimmy Butler-less Miami Heat continue to try and stay afloat without their suspended star in the lineup as they take on a Brooklyn Nets team that's equally just as down and out offensively with Cam Thomas still sidelined.

The Brooklyn Nets will hope to end a five-game losing streak when they host the struggling Miami Heat at the Barclays Center on Saturday night.

Brooklyn and Miami aren’t impressing much on offense as of late, which is why I’m taking the Under in my Heat vs. Nets predictions below.

Let’s dive deeper into this Saturday evening matchup in my free NBA picks for January 25.

Heat vs Nets prediction

My best bet
Under 209.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
While the Miami Heat aren’t among the top offensive teams in the league, they’re far better than the Brooklyn Nets, who are among the lowest-scoring teams in the NBA. Brooklyn is putting up a league-low 105.9 ppg on the year, while ranking 26th in offensive rating.

The situation might not be so bad for the Nets if their one impactful scorer, Cam Thomas (24.7 ppg), were in the lineup tonight. But he’s been ruled out with a hamstring injury, continuing issues that have limited him to just 19 games this season.

That means we’re getting the worst version of the Brooklyn offense, one that has been held below 100 points in five of its last 10 games. A closer look reveals that things are even worse than that sounds, as the Nets have scored more than 101 points only three times in that span, and haven’t done so in their last five games.

That makes it easy to lean towards the Under whenever the Heat play, and that’s a move that would have paid off in four of their last five games. But it’s the recent efforts of the Heat that have me truly confident that this will be a low-scoring game tonight.

Miami has been playing poorly since Jimmy Butler (17.0 ppg) requested a trade and has subsequently missed eight of its last 11 games due to suspensions from the team. Butler will be out again tonight, the result of his most recent suspension, which came when he missed the team flight to Milwaukee on Wednesday.

With or without Butler in the lineup, the turmoil has clearly impacted the Heat, though it’s even worse when he’s not on the floor. In his last three appearances, Miami is averaging 116 ppg on offense; in the last five games when Butler has been out, it has scored just 103.6 ppg.

Miami has stayed afloat – somewhat – thanks to solid defensive efforts that have allowed it to go 4-4 over their last eight games. The Heat should be able to keep the Nets from scoring much tonight as well, considering how inept Brooklyn has looked on offense, particularly without Thomas in the lineup.

We’ve already seen these teams meet up once this year, totaling just 205 points on Dec. 23. I’m expecting a similarly low-scoring game tonight, which is why I’m backing the Under.

Heat vs Nets same-game parlay

Under 209.5

Brooklyn +9.5

Tyler Herro 20+ points

The Under is my best play of the night, but I also like Brooklyn to cover a surprisingly large spread in this game. The Nets are in freefall, having lost 10 of 11, but their low-scoring brand of basketball has kept them in games, and they’ve gone 4-3 against the spread in their last seven outings. Meanwhile, Miami is just 1-5 ATS in their last six overall.

To round out our SGP, I’ll take Tyler Herro to score at least 20 points. Even if there won’t be a ton of scoring tonight, Herro is the most consistent scorer on either team, averaging 24.0 ppg. He’s also put up at least 20 points in six of his last seven games, making him a safe bet to get there again.

Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
