Following a huge win over the Bucks, the New York Knicks will look to carry that momentum into Monday’s matchup at home against the Detroit Pistons.

With both New York and Detroit being led by star point guards and both teams’ defenses being iffy, I’m expecting a high-scoring battle in my Pistons vs. Knicks predictions and NBA picks for Monday, January 13.

Pistons vs Knicks prediction

My best bet
Over 225.5 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
While Jalen Brunson did get his shoulder banged up in the win over the Bucks on Sunday, head coach Tom Thibodeau said he was fine in his postgame press conference.

That’s great news for Over bettors with Brunson coming off a dominant showing. He dropped 44 in just 29 minutes while going 5-for-10 from behind the arc. The 28-year-old is ninth in the NBA in points per game (25.5) and the catalyst for one of the league’s best offensive attacks.

Led by Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, the New York Knicks are among the top Over teams in the NBA (22-17-1) and sit seventh in points per game (116.6) and third in offensive rating (119.9). The Knicks are poised to expose a Detroit Pistons defense with clear cracks.

Although head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has Detroit in playoff position, this defense is mediocre. It’s 16th in points allowed (113.2) and 15th in defensive rating (113.5) while giving up the sixth-most threes per game (14.1). That bodes well for a Knicks’ offense that’s ninth in 3-point percentage (37.3%) and has four different players hitting 2+ threes per game (Brunson, Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby).

With Brunson and Towns capable of attacking the rim or pulling from behind the arc, New York will be a challenging matchup for Detroit. This is an efficient offense that’s third in field goal percentage (49.3%) and fourth in free throw percentage (80.6%).

However, the Pistons should be able to help push this Over past the finish line thanks to Cade Cunningham. The former No. 1 pick is putting together an All-Star campaign and sits Top 20 in points per game (24.2). He’s helped Detroit put up 115+ points in 10 of its last 16 games and can pull off the feat once again against a New York defense that’s just 17th in defensive rating (113.7).

The Knicks have particularly struggled defending the perimeter — allowing the fifth-highest 3-point percentage in the NBA (37.4%). Even with Jaden Ivey out, Cunningham (37.8% from three), Malik Beasley (39.6%), and Tim Hardaway Jr. (38.7%) should be able to take advantage.

These two offenses have the juice to hit the Over for the third time against each other this season.

Pistons vs Knicks same-game parlay

Over 224.5

Karl-Anthony Towns Over 37.5 points + rebounds

Cade Cunningham Over 9.5 assists

Brunson may be the star in the Big Apple coming off a jaw-dropping performance, but Towns has been on an absolute heater for a few weeks. New York’s big man has been a double-double machine, finishing with one in 30 of 34 games this season, including seven straight.

He’s also gone Over 37.5 combined points + rebounds in six of his last seven games. During that stretch, he’s averaging 29.1 ppg and 15.6 rebounds per game. He’s been a dominant force since late December and can continue to shine against the Pistons.

To keep up with Towns, Detroit needs Cunningham’s playmaking to be on full display. He’s third in the league in assists per game (9.5) and is coming off an 18-apple outing against the Raptors. The Oklahoma State product has gone Over 9.5 assists in 16 of his last 28 games (57.1%).
