The Toronto Raptors celebrated their extension of Brandon Ingram by upsetting the Philadelphia 76ers as 9.5-point underdogs last night.

It was Toronto’s ninth win in its last 15 games, but if the Raps want to extend this streak, it will require their best effort as they welcome the top team in the Eastern Conference to town in the Cleveland Cavaliers.

My Cavaliers vs. Raptors predictions and NBA picks tell you why Immanuel Quickley will make an impact in this matchup set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Wednesday, February 12.

Raptors vs Cavaliers prediction

My Raptors pick
Immanuel Quickley Over 16.5 points (-115 at PointsBet Canada)

My analysis
When I saw that the Toronto Raptors were 9.5-point underdogs against the Philadelphia 76ers yesterday, my gut reaction was, “This spread is too big.”

Toronto was playing better than its record while Philly was not playing well at all. And what happened? The Raptors managed not only to cover the 9.5-point spread and our best bet, but they won outright, 106-103.

Unfortunately, when I see the spread for tonight’s matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, I’m feeling like this spread isn’t big enough.

For starters, the Cavaliers are actually a good basketball team, one of the top in the NBA and arguably the best in the Eastern Conference. They enter this game with a 43-10 record and are second in the Association in net rating. On top of that, the Cavs have been a great bet, going 34-19 ATS.

Cleveland will also have a rest advantage with Toronto playing the second half of a back-to-back. So, what’s a Raptors fan to do?

Well, I want to focus on Immanuel Quickley. After a disastrous first half of the season that was plagued by injuries, IQ is starting to once again look like the guy the Raptors invested in this offseason.

Quickley has put up 20 and 23 points, respectively, in his last two games while averaging 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He’s also gotten his shooting rhythm back, going 7-for-17 (41.2%) from 3-point range in those games. Maybe more importantly, he played 30-plus minutes in each.

Cleveland is a strong defensive team but they can be attacked on the perimeter. The Cavs allow opposing guards to shoot the seventh-most threes in the NBA while ranking 20th in 3-point shooting percentage. As a result, they rank 23rd in opponent guard scoring per game.

While I worry about the Raps ATS tonight, Quickley has a modest point total of 16.5 in this one. Give me the Over as IQ continues to improve the more he is on the court.

Raptors vs Cavaliers same-game parlay

Immanuel Quickley Over 16.5 points

Scottie Barnes Over 7.5 rebounds

Over 114.5 1H

You’d think a team with Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen would rank higher than 14th in rebounding rate, but that’s where the Cavaliers sit heading into this one.

Meanwhile, Scottie Barnes is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game this season and has grabbed eight or more boards 10 times in his last 17 games, including hauling down 19 over the last two.

Let’s round this SGP out with the Over 114.5 first-half total. These teams have met three times this season and have gotten off to fast starts in each, averaging 120 first-half points per game and scoring no fewer than 118.

While the Raptors' defense has improved, they have still struggled against good competition. Both teams play at a high tempo and the Raptors should have a good half in them before potentially gassing out in the second half.

Raptors vs Cavaliers spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Raptors opened this Eastern Conference matchup as 13-point home underdogs, but that big number hasn't stopped early bettors from backing the Cavaliers, pushing the spread as high as 14.5 before some Raps buyback brought it back to 13.5.
  • The Raptors have been a solid bet this season at 32-21-1 ATS, but the Cavs have been better at 34-19 ATS, including going 2-1 ATS vs. Toronto. For what it's worth, the Raps covered the last meeting as 13-point underdogs.
  • The total hit the board at 235.5 and has been bet up to 236.5 as of Wednesday afternoon.
  • This would be the highest closing total of the four matchups between these two this season. The Over is 2-1 in the previous three meetings.

He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
