The Toronto Raptors won’t have much time to dwell on their latest loss as they’ll play their second game in as many nights when they visit the Brooklyn Nets.

The NBA odds suggest another loss is in the Raptors’ future, as they will be double-digit underdogs for this Atlantic Division matchup. Will the Raptors get back in the win column tonight, or will a new losing streak begin?

I break it all down in my Raptors vs. Nets predictions and NBA picks for Wednesday, April 10.

My analysis

The Toronto Raptors' two-game winning streak came to a crashing halt, falling 140-122 to Pascal Siakam and the Indiana Pacers last night. The Raps were 14-point underdogs for that contest, and it'll be a similar case again tonight when they visit the Brooklyn Nets in the second half of a back-to-back.

And while the recent 15-game losing streak isn’t emblematic of what the Raptors can be, the loss to the Pacers continues the running theme of their horrific defense this season.

Toronto has the second-worst defense in the NBA since January 11, and also ranks 27th in opponent-effective field goal percentage and 25th in scoring defense, surrendering 118.9 points per game. Simply put, the effort on defense has been ugly.

With the Raptors playing their second game in as many nights, I don’t expect that defensive effort to improve overnight. That has me looking at a points prop for Nets forward Mikal Bridges.

The 27-year-old wing is having a solid season, averaging 20.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game. While Bridges' output has been a little bit lately, sportsbooks are overreacting to that and giving us a really good number when it comes to his point total this evening.

The Over/Under for Bridges is sitting at 16.5. Despite the dip in his numbers, Bridges is still averaging 16.9 points per game while shooting a solid 44% from the field, including 41.6% from 3-point range over his last 10 games. He’s also topped this number six times over that stretch.

Our Covers Prop Projections have Bridges at 19 points. Keeping him below this 16.5 will be a problem for the Raps tonight.

Raptors vs Nets same-game parlay

Mikal Bridges Over 16.5 points

Immanuel Quickley Over 2.5 made threes

Raptors +10

We all saw how important Immanuel Quickley and RJ Barrett are to this team, as the duo was away for the majority of the 15-game losing streak.

Quickley is what makes the Raptors’ offense go without Scottie Barnes. The electric guard put up 25+ points in the Raps' two recent wins, going 6-15 from three. The Nets have a surprisingly shaky perimeter defense, ranking 18th in opponent-made 3-pointers per possession and 22nd in opponent 3-point shooting percentage.

It also appears books aren’t properly taking into account the fact that both Barrett and Quickley are expected to suit up tonight. While the Nets are better than the Raps, I’m not sure they are 10 points better in this spot.

Raptors vs Nets spread and Over/Under analysis

  • The Raptors opened this Atlantic Division matchup as 10-point underdogs and that's where the line remains as of early Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Nets won a 96-88 defensive battle between these teams in Toronto back on March 25. The Raptors were 6.5-point home dogs in that game, but both Barrett and Quickley were unavailable.
  • The Nets are just 1-4 ATS this season when favored by 9.5 points or more.
  • The total opened at 221 and the early action has been on the Over, bumping the line up to 222.5. The previous meeting closed with an O/U of 218 and fell well below the number. That could change with the return of key players.

When his dreams of becoming the next Steve Nash died, all Andrew “Taco” Caley wanted to do was write about sports, something he’s been doing at Covers for more than a decade. A Journalism School grad from Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, Andrew previously worked at The Chronicle Herald and Star Metro, but knew in his heart that his future lay in sports. He began at Covers as a news editor and has now done everything under the sun when it comes to content. His work has been seen on TSN, Sportsnet, VSiN, and CBS.

These days Andrew’s betting expertise is focused on his favorite teams – the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. He’s also an avid college football fan and bettor. He can’t be friends with you if you don’t appreciate a Service Academy Under. You can also call him Covers’ Sixth Man, as he regularly steps up to guest host Before You Bet and our MLB and NCAAF release shows.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
