Suns vs Cavaliers Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Phoenix Rises From the Ashes

The Cavs are losing a new body to injury seemingly every day and the Suns are welcoming Devin Booker back to the rotation after missing a few games. Shorthanded Cleveland will struggle to put up a fight against a full-strength Phoenix.

The Phoenix Suns begin a crucial four-game road trip tonight when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Phoenix is on the bubble for avoiding the Western Conference's Play-In Tournament and is coming off a loss to the Boston Celtics on Saturday. Cleveland is in a fight with the Milwaukee Bucks for the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference but took a 19-point loss to the Brooklyn Nets yesterday.

Not only are the Cavs banged up, but they’re on the second night of a back-to-back and are home underdogs in the NBA odds. We’ll discuss how well Cleveland can compete tonight in our free NBA picks and predictions for the Suns vs. Cavaliers on Monday, March 11.

Suns vs Cavaliers predictions

The Cleveland Cavaliers should be glad to be in such a good playoff position because they’re dealing with as many significant injuries as any team in the NBA right now. Donovan Mitchell is getting closer to coming back, but he’s still out with a knee injury. Both Evan Mobley (ankle) and Max Strus (knee) are out of action, while Darius Garland is day-to-day with a wrist issue. It’s a list of injured starters that most teams wouldn’t wish on their worst enemies.

What does that leave for Cleveland to work with tonight? Jarrett Allen (16.2 points per game) is a capable scorer in the post, and that might be the way the Cavaliers have to lean tonight to keep themselves in the game. Getting Garland (18.5 ppg) back would be a big help, and we can expect Caris LeVert (13.8 ppg) to pick up extra minutes with Mitchell out. But even in the most optimistic scenario, this is a hobbled team.

Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are just now getting a key player back. Kevin Durant (28.3 ppg) has kept Phoenix in games, but he’ll be glad to have running mate Devin Booker (27.5 ppg) back tonight after the shooting guard missed four straight games with an ankle strain. Eric Gordon is out with a knee injury, but that will matter less with Booker ready to pick up most of his minutes again tonight.

In other words, we’re not looking at a fair fight tonight. Even if it weren’t for the injuries, Phoenix has had a night of rest while Cleveland is on the second leg of a back-to-back. Even when these teams are both at full strength, this is a close matchup. But with Phoenix likely getting one of their key players back in Booker, and the Cavaliers struggling to field a competitive team, this almost feels unfair.

The Cavs will compete at home, but this is nearly impossible. The Suns have too much talent and will throw two elite scorers out on the court against a team with virtually no answers. Even on the road, I’m taking the Suns to cover as a fairly strong favorite tonight.

My best bet: Suns -6.5 (-105 at BetMGM)

Suns vs Cavaliers same-game parlay

Suns -6.5

Under 220.5

Devin Booker 20+ points

The Suns should win this one going away, but that doesn’t mean there will be a ton of scoring overall. Both teams have been playing toward the Under of late, and Cleveland’s hobbled lineup will struggle to score. I’m taking the Under as part of my same-game parlay tonight.

We’ll round out our SGP by taking a returning star to have a solid game coming back from injury. Booker has scored at least 20 points in eight of his last nine games, making it a fairly safe bet that he’ll be able to hit that mark again even if his minutes are slightly limited in his return to action tonight.

Suns vs Cavaliers spread and Over/Under analysis

The Suns opened as 5.5-point favorites. That line has moved further in Phoenix’s direction, with the consensus spread now set at Suns -6.5. Most sites have -110 odds on both sides, but I found -105 on the Suns, so it’s worth shopping around for the best line.

Both teams have struggled against the spread this year. The Cavaliers have been able to stay close to even, going 31-33 ATS, while the Suns have let betters down by posting a 25-37-2 ATS record.

The Cavaliers had been going through a difficult stretch even before their injury troubles. They’re not getting much back in terms of talent yet, while the Suns will be fully healthy and highly motivated with Booker back in the lineup and given their precarious position just above the Play-In.

The total opened at 221.5. That’s already a low number but came down another point, with the consensus Over/Under now sitting at 220.5. You will find -110 odds on both sides of the market at almost all books.

Both teams have consistently played towards the Under this season, especially lately. The Under holds a 37-27 advantage in Phoenix’s games, while it has also gone 35-28-1 when the Cavaliers play this season.

The Cavs have been struggling to score points due to the injuries to many of their primary scorers, getting above 110 points only once in their last six games. But the Suns have truly been on an Under run as of late, hitting it in 10 straight games, even managing to do so in a contest that went to overtime against the Denver Nuggets last week. The Suns might score more tonight, but with Cleveland struggling to find scoring options, I’m still leaning toward the Under in this game.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
