Suns vs Timberwolves Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Jaden McDaniels' hatred for the Suns lends itself to Douglas Farmer's best bet, as Phoenix's stars will be tormented all night long by the Wolves' wing defender.

The Minnesota Timberwolves need a get-right game. They have lost three of their last four despite being favored in all three of those, and each loss was costly in a tight race to escape the Western Conference Play-In Tournament.

The Phoenix Suns are simply trying to make the Play-In, and there may be no one worse for them to play than Minnesota.

My Suns vs. Timberwolves predictions trust the home favorites to continue their winning streak in this matchup, in particular because of one player’s pettiness. Find out more in my NBA picks for Friday, March 28.

Suns vs Timberwolves prediction

My best bet: Jaden McDaniels Over 1.5 steals (+165 at bet365)

My analysis
Hate is an unhealthy emotion. It is bad for all parties involved. Hating someone does not lead to anything constructive in your life.

But for all rules, there are exceptions to prove them.

Jaden McDaniels’s hate of the Phoenix Suns is the exception, proving the rule of hate being an unhealthy and unproductive emotion. For McDaniels, that hate sits on the surface as the only emotion he ever shows, and it has played a significant part in the Minnesota Timberwolves' seven-game winning streak against the Suns.

In the three head-to-head matchups this season, McDaniels has cleared this prop each time, snagging three steals in two of the tilts. His loathing of Devin Booker manifests itself in fast hands.

When Anthony Edwards once said, “They got KD, but we got Jaden McDaniels,” the fifth-year wing took that as license to swipe at Kevin Durant’s handle. Bol Bol may as well be an advertisement to McDaniels for free possessions.

This is not hyperbole. McDaniels would rather smile in front of a camera — something he does about twice a season — than let Booker successfully whine to a ref. Meanwhile, Bradley Beal is probably on the [censored profanity] list after he dangerously shoved Edwards in mid-air to end their most recent meeting, a blowout in Phoenix on March 2.

Even if you want to dismiss this truth, realize that McDaniels has cashed this prop in 10 of 17 games since the All-Star Break.

But mostly, avoid hate in your life, unless it is a chance to capitalize on McDaniels’s seething hatred for Phoenix.

Suns vs Timberwolves same-game parlay

Jaden McDaniels Over 1.5 steals

Jaden McDaniels Over 5.5 rebounds

Timberwolves moneyline

The Suns are just a good matchup for McDaniels, in addition to that unhealthy piece of hate. He has cleared this prop in each of his last two games against Phoenix, as well as in four of Minnesota’s seven straight wins against the Suns.

Why? It's partly because Royce O’Neale and Mason Plumlee are the best rebounders in the rotation, and McDaniels can reach over each of them for boards.

Seven straight wins against the Suns is not reason enough to bet the Timberwolves to reach an eighth, but given Minnesota has had three full days off and desperately needs to right its ship, the seven-point favorite should at least prevail.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
