Trail Blazers vs Nets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NBA Game

Although Deni Avdija has put together a productive season for Portland, the veteran could be in for a quiet night on the scoresheet against a Brooklyn team that locks in on small forwards.

Get set for non-conference action when the Portland Trail Blazers visit Barclays Center to face the Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn surrenders the fewest home points per game, and my Trail Blazers vs. Nets predictions expect Portland forward Deni Avdija to struggle with his shot.

Read on as I share my NBA picks for Friday, February 28.

Trail Blazers vs Nets prediction

My best bet
Deni Avdija Under 15.5 points (-105 at bet365)

My analysis
The Portland Trail Blazers are still in the hunt for a play-in spot, but I’m not high on forward Deni Avdija helping them much tonight.

While the fifth-year vet averages a tick under 15.0 ppg, Avdija played only six minutes on Wednesday before exiting with a quad injury. Quads can be a tricky ailment to overcome, as this injury affects the shooters' lift on jumpers and burst to the cup.

The other problem Avdija faces is the Brooklyn Nets' defense. The Nets allow only 111 points at home and, according to Hashtag Basketball, are among the best defenders against small forwards like Avdija.

Meanwhile, the Nets play at a snail's pace, and Cam Thomas's return will likely force the Trail Blazers forward to defend. Avdija has only reached 16+ points twice in his last five away tilts, and I don't anticipate him eclipsing his points prop.

Trail Blazers vs Nets same-game parlay

Deni Avdija Under 15.5 points

Cameron Thomas Under 18.5 points

Under 220.5

Nets guard Cameron Thomas returns to the Brooklyn lineup after missing over a month with a hamstring issue. Although Portland doesn’t defend opposing guards well, Thomas will likely be on some sort of minutes restriction, and he’ll also need to fend off some rust.

Brooklyn allows the fewest points per game at home (111.0), with a home Over/Under mark of 10-18-0 to the Under. The Nets will meet a banged-up Trail Blazers squad, surrendering only 113 away ppg — including holding a road O/U record of 11-17-1.
