There are very few milestones to note during this Washington Wizards season. They'll reach for one on Saturday, seeking a four-game regular-season sweep of the Charlotte Hornets.
The best part? A win won’t even harpoon their current place as the worst team in the NBA, keeping them among the best bets to land the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. However, the Wiz are shorthanded, a big reason why Charlotte is a 4-point favorite.
Our Wizards vs. Hornets predictions and NBA picks still think Charlotte will struggle in its first game back from a mammoth 9-game road trip.

Wizards +4 (-105 at bet365)
My analysis
The Washington Wizards haven't had much to smile about of late. A 107-99 win over Brooklyn on Monday is the team’s lone win in the last eight games.
The numbers haven’t been great. The Wizards are surrendering 120.8 points per game, which is somehow an improvement on their NBA-worst ranking. Offensively, they put up just 108.3 points per contest and are shooting just 44% from the field and 33.4% from distance.
They’ll also be playing shorthanded, as Jordan Poole (elbow), Saddiq Bey (knee), and Malcolm Brogdon (ankle) have all been ruled out, with rookie Alex Sarr (ankle) listed as questionable.
They’ll be taking on a Charlotte Hornets squad that just finished a nine-game road odyssey that bookended the NBA All-Star Weekend. Charlotte had one win on the entire trip and lost by an average of 20.3 points per contest. They've lost five straight entering tonight.
That included absolute obliterations at the hands of the Trail Blazers (141-88), Kings (130-88), and Warriors (128-92). They finished the trip with a respectable 103-96 loss to the Mavericks. Charlotte can’t muster up offense right now, as they averaged 95.1 points per game over its last nine, shooting 39% from the field and 29.9% from the 3-point range.
While Washington would seem like a soft landing spot for most other teams in the league, the Hornets have dropped four straight to the Wizards, going 1-7 against the spread over the last eight contests.
Washington has had an extra day relative to the Hornets, and that's benefitted them, as the Wizards are 8-6 ATS in those games. It’s hard not to think Charlotte's thrown in the towel.
Even with a depleted lineup, the trade fodder that washed up on Washington’s shores in the form of Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart should be enough to carry them past an equally bad Hornets team.
Wizards vs Hornets same-game parlay
It hasn’t been a great scoring time for Khris Middleton since joining the Wizards, as he’s hit the 20-point plateau just once, and has been held below 10 in back-to-back games, but he’s traditionally found his groove against the Hornets, scoring 15+ points in six of his last seven against Charlotte. With Poole out of the lineup, his scoring will be needed.
