The Auburn Tigers will put their perfect conference record on the line this afternoon when they travel to Oxford to take on the Mississippi Rebels, who are 10-1 at home this season.

Find out why my Auburn vs Mississippi predictions and college basketball picks expect the Tigers to own the boards on February 1.

Auburn vs Mississippi prediction

My best bet
Tahaad Pettiford Over 1.5 rebounds (-135 at bet365)

My analysis
The SEC has been a juggernaut this season, and yet these are two of the top teams in the league: Auburn is 7-0 in SEC play, and Mississippi is 5-3. However, one major mismatch in this game favors the Tigers, and that's rebounding.

The Tigers rank 46th in the country in rebounding, at 38.7 per game, and 27th in rebounding percentage, at 54.4%. Meanwhile, the Rebels rank 263rd in rebounding, at 34.2 per contest, and 323rd in rebounds allowed, at 37.5.

While Johni Broome is Auburn's obvious choice for rebounds, his line is set at 11.5. That is a massive number, and he has missed six of his last ten games. Instead, I'm going to look for more value elsewhere on the roster.

Backup guard Tahaad Pettiford is exactly where I am looking. He averages 1.8 rebounds per contest this season and 1.9 in conference play. However, his line is only set at 1.5, and he's surpassed that in five of his past six games.

The Rebels have allowed every player who played 20 or more minutes to get at least two rebounds in each of their last seven games. Pettiford has averaged 20.9 minutes per game this season and surpassed 20 minutes in four of his last five.

The Tigers force a ton of missed shots and force their opponents to shoot 39.4% from the field. Mississippi ranks 204th in the country in shooting percentage at 44.5%, so there will be plenty of opportunities for Pettiford here.

Auburn vs Mississippi same-game parlay (SGP)

Tahaad Pettiford Over 1.5 rebounds

Auburn -5.5

Jaylen Murray Under 2.5 assists

Auburn’s biggest weakness is committing fouls and allowing offensive rebounds. However, the Rebels are a terrible rebounding team and commit a lot of fouls themselves. This is just a good matchup for the best team in the country.

Jaylen Murray has been held to one or fewer assists in three of his past four games. The Tigers are the best in the country, allowing only 8.4 assists per game.
