The Connecticut Huskies will look to avenge a stunning loss less than a month ago when they host the Seton Hall Pirates at Harry A. Gampel Pavillion on Saturday afternoon.
While many eyes will be on whether the Huskies can cover a huge spread in this rematch, I’m more interested in taking the Over, which I’ll break down in my Seton Hall vs. UConn predictions.
Let’s look into every angle of this matchup in my free college basketball picks for Saturday, March 8.

My best bet

My analysis
This afternoon’s game would just be another late season mismatch in conference play, if not for the fact Seton Hall has already scored a win over UConn.
The Pirates overcame a seven-point deficit in the final minute to beat the Huskies 69-68 in overtime on Feb. 15. That stunning upset was the low point of the season for Connecticut, and it’s hard to imagine how much the Huskies will be out for revenge at home today.
Since that makes an 18-point spread pretty dicey on either side, that has me looking at the total for my best bet. UConn is one of the best offensive teams in the nation, and neither side is particularly dominant on defense. I think we could be looking at a relatively high-scoring game.
Both teams have averaged totals above the 132 number sportsbooks have put on this game, with UConn playing to much higher scores. The first game between these teams ended with 137 points, albeit only after overtime.
But these schools played above today’s total in both meetings last season. In addition, we can look at the recent trends to see they’ve been playing relatively high-scoring brands of basketball as they approach the end of the regular season.
That’s not surprising for the Huskies, who have hit totals of 132+ in six of their last seven games, but the Pirates have also hit that number in five of their last six outings — a surprising run of high-scoring affairs for a team that plays slow and hasn’t shown a lot of firepower.
Seton Hall has no huge scoring threats — guard Isaiah Coleman leads the team with 15.5 ppg — but no matter how low scoring the Pirates may be overall, I can’t ignore the fact they have at least gotten into the 60s in four of their last six games.
Meanwhile, Connecticut continues to light up the scoreboard, scoring at least 72 points in its last four games. I expect a similar output against an outmatched Seton Hall team tonight, which should be more than enough to take this game to the Over.

Yes, the gulf between these teams is huge in terms of talent, but based on what we saw in the first battle — which, once again, the Pirates won outright — it’s hard to imagine a spread quite this big is correct.
Throw in the fact Seton Hall has covered in three of its last four games (even while losing all four outright) and I like throwing in the Pirates with the points on my same-game parlay.
