Another night, another premier matchup in the SEC when top ten Texas A&M travels to Oxford to face Mississippi.
Ole Miss suffered its first SEC loss over the weekend when it lost to Mississippi State on the road by three. Now they are back home and looking to bounce back in a relentless SEC.
On that same day, the Aggies won over LSU. Not because a win over the Tigers was impressive but because it halted a two-game losing streak for A&M. We think that streak could start tonight as we preview the matchup in my Texas A&M vs. Mississippi predictions.

My best bet
Mississippi -3 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
To be honest, I think this is one of the most fairly priced games of the season that I’ve written about.
These two teams are similar on the defensive side, and their seasons are likely to have similar ceilings. But the situational spot for the Rebels off a loss pushes this over the edge and makes Ole Miss -3 my best bet. A number I made -4. It’s not like they don’t have advantages in this matchup either.
Texas A&M wins games because it creates an overwhelming shot advantage for itself as the most impressive offensive rebounding team in the country. It is also a top five team in forced turnovers. While the Rebels won’t be able to totally negate that, they will be in a position to make a significant dent in it.
Ole Miss doesn’t turn over the ball. They actually have the fifth lowest rate in the country. That’s a start and anything that forces A&M to be more efficient in the halfcourt is a big win for the opponent.
On the other side of the ball, the Rebels should be able to score in advantageous scoring positions on the court. This could be a rock fight in many areas, but one clear area is when it comes to the Aggies defending against the terrific perimeter cutting actions of Ole Miss.
Between Dre Davis, Sean Pedulla and Jaemyn Brakefield, Ole Miss has a solid trio of players specialized in perimeter cutting actions. It’s no wonder they are so efficient. They’ll come into this game ranked top 20% of college basketball in perimeter cutting averaging 1.14 points per possession in such sets. This is a particular issue for A&M who struggles to defend these sets with below average defensive numbers. In what is an ugly game, I suspect this ultimately makes a difference.

Dre Davis Over 4.5 rebounds
With the anticipation of an ugly game with plenty of missed shots. It only makes sense to pair this best bet with a rebounding prop. I landed on Dre Davis.
His home/road rebounding splits are quite astounding averaging nearly 1.5 more rebounds in home games than on the road.
Outside of that, his profile for this game fits well given the above mentioned which makes me think we could see a slight minutes increase.
