My analysis
It’s not often you can get plus-odds on a team’s best outside shooter to make a single trey, but that’s the situation we’re presented with on Saturday.
The past week has seen Marquette guard Stevie Mitchell step up as a scorer. He dropped 21 points against Villanova last weekend and then followed it up with an impressive 22-point performance against Butler, especially with Cam Jones dealing with foul trouble.
Mitchell has posted a usage rate of over 20% in three of four games, and all three of those contests saw him hit from deep as he made five of his 11 attempts from downtown in that span.
Meanwhile, UConn opponents are making 36.9% of their 3-point attempts in conference play, the third-highest mark in the Big East. On the season, the Huskies rank 331st in 3-point defense.
UConn is banged up coming into this game, and Marquette’s defense is going to swarm them. It will lead to some turnovers and transition opportunities. Combine that with Mitchell’s increased usage, and I’ll be highly surprised if he doesn’t bury at least one against a leaky Husky defense.

Kam Jones has attempted at least five shots from beyond the arc in eight consecutive games, averaging nearly two makes per contest, and he should reach that again here against a shorter defender.
Solo Ball has been terrific for UConn, averaging almost 20 points over his last three contests. However, he’s also racked up multiple assists in his last two outings, thanks in part to an offense that gets an assist on more than two-thirds of their made baskets.
Marquette allows one of the highest assist rates in college hoops, and Hassan Diarra will be dealing with a larger Jones and may find himself in foul trouble. That should lead to Ball having the rock in his hands a bit more often, offering solid value for two or more dimes.
