My analysis
The Kent State Golden Flashes haven’t won a football game since September 16, 2023. For those counting at home, that's 20 straight losses.
Kent State is more like flickers than flashes. The offense has some bright spots, like the arm of junior quarterback Tommy Ulatowski, but not much else.
The Buffalo Bulls defense is sketchy, surrendering 30+ in three of their previous five with the 11th-worst passing defense in the MAC. So even a paltry attack like Kent State's could help run up the score.
The Golden Flashes might own the conference’s worst offense, but Kent State has had some excellent individual efforts. Wideouts Chrishon McCray and Luke Floriea have combined to catch 15 scoring strikes, and running back Ky Thomas has over 500 rushing yards.
They’ll score 10+ points if Kent State can keep Ulatowski upright. The Golden Flashes allow a conference-worst 37 sacks, but Buffalo doesn’t offer much in the way of a pass rush.
For all of its folly on the defensive side of the ball, the Buffalo offense scores big.
Bulls senior quarterback C.J. Ogbonna has thrown over 2,000 passing yards with 16 scoring strikes. He boasts two wideouts with 500+ receiving yards, and RB Al-Jay Henderson has 700+ rushing yards with seven TDs.
Kent State owns the conference's worst defense. They’ll get shelled by a multi-faceted Buffaloes offense that has averaged 28 points per night with 37+ points in four of its last five MAC games.
Fortunately for Kent State, the Buffalo defense is equally as bad. The Golden Flashes have enough bright spots that I expect them to score at least 10 points against a bad Bulls defense. That should lead to more than 49 points, so I am playing the Over on Tuesday
Kent State vs Buffalo same-game parlay (SGP)
Henderson, the Bulls junior running back, is playing his final home game of the season and maybe the final home game of his Bulls career.
He’s scored seven rushing touchdowns, including one last week at Eastern Michigan. He also has 17 receptions with one receiving TD and meets a Kent State defense, allowing 33 rushing TDs and 24 passing touchdowns.
That leaky Kent State defense will allow Buffalo to cover the spread. Neither group is covering above 50%, but Buffalo has scored 92 points in its last two at home and should end with a lopsided victory.
