Louisville vs Boston College Prediction, Picks, Odds, and Best Bet: Eagles Prove To Be Shough Stoppers

The Louisville offense relies on quarterback Tyler Shough, but our college football betting picks believe Boston College can keep him in check as the Eagles give the Cardinals at least a scare if not an outright loss.

Get set for an exciting Friday night matchup when the Louisville Cardinals meet the Boston College Eagles under the bright lights of Alumni Stadium.

The Cardinals have dropped three of their last four, and my Louisville vs. Boston College predictions expect a tight, low-scoring contest.

Read on as I explain why I like Boston College to make a game of it with my free college football picks for Friday, October 25.

Louisville vs Boston College prediction and best bet

My analysis

The Louisville Cardinals are coming off a 52-45 Saturday home loss to the Miami Hurricanes. Louisville is up against an explosive Boston College Eagles offense with one of the top defenses in the ACC.

Boston College has only lost twice this season by more than seven points. The reason? Boston College's big-play offense has 40 explosive plays for 1,195 yards with a stop unit allowing an ACC fourth-best 20 points per game.

The Boston College O-Unit scores 26 points per game. Explosive plays account for 48% of the Eagles' offense, and they face a Cardinals defense that surrenders 31 plays of 20+ yards and 15 plays of 30 or more yards.

The Eagles defense allows a shade under 21 points and 351 yards per game. They are an opportunistic unit with nine interceptions, allowing 21 points or fewer in their previous four contests.

Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough is the man behind the potent Cardinals offense. He’s thrown 18 scoring strikes with three interceptions, but he’s up against a defense that surrenders the fourth-fewest passing yards (209) in the ACC with only six TD receptions allowed this season.

I like Boston College to cover the number. Boston College's defense can slow the Cardinals' high-scoring offense. The Eagles have had two extra days on the schedule to prepare, and Louisville is coming off a tough, physical Saturday home loss to the Miami Hurricanes.

The home team has won each of their last seven meetings. While Boston College may not win this contest, the extra two days of preparation — alongside the Eagles' exceptional defense and big-play offense — can help them cover the spread.

Louisville vs Boston College same-game parlay (SGP)

Boston College +7.5

Tyler Shough 1+ passing TDs

Under 53.5

Shough’s arm is challenging to keep out of the end zone. The Texas Tech transfer has thrown 54 career TD passes and 1+ scoring strike in six of his previous seven games.

We’ve already discussed the Eagles' above-average passing defense. If the Eagles hold Shough to only one scoring strike, and I believe they will, this contest will finish Under the number.

Neither side relies heavily on its ground game, and both defenses are above average against the run. The respective defenses are probably better than the offenses, and that should keep this one Under the total.
