One of the greatest rivalries in college football renews hostilities tonight as the Oregon State Beavers and the Oregon Ducks do battle at the Autzen Zoo in Eugene. And this year, there's plenty on the line.

The Ducks need a win to secure their spot in the Pac-12 Championship. A loss would not only likely keep them out of the title game, but a two-loss team has never made the College Football Playoff. And the rival Beavers would love nothing more to take that opportunity away.

Can Heisman odds favorite Bo Nix lead the Ducks to a big win as nearly two-touchdown college football odds favorites? Or will the Beavers keep it close or even pull off the upset?

I break down the matchup and bring you my best free college football picks for Oregon State vs. Oregon on Friday, November 24.

Oregon State vs Oregon best odds

Oregon State vs Oregon picks and predictions

Oregon vs. Oregon State is one of the oldest rivalries in college football. These in-state foes have been playing each other since 1894 and this is one of the most important games in this matchup to date.

The Ducks are 10-1 heading into this game and need a win to assure their spot in the Pac-12 Championship game and Heisman hopeful quarterback Bo Nix leads the way.

Nix is putting up some gaudy numbers. The senior signal-caller has thrown for 3,539 yards while completing 78.1% of his passes with 35 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions. He's coming off a game against Arizona State where he threw for 400 yards and six scores in basically one half of football.

Now, this Oregon State team will pose an interesting challenge for Nix and the Ducks. The Beavers have one of the better defensive fronts in college football but the Ducks can counter that with one of the best offensive lines in the country. On top of that, their secondary is certainly vulnerable.

In Oregon State’s two previous losses to Washington State and Arizona, the Beavers allowed 697 passing yards. And while they limited Michael Penix Jr. to just 162 passing yards, they got a big assist from the weather. The amount of rain in that game made it look like players were trying to catch a greased pig. Particularly in the second half.

Overall, Oregon State ranks 68th in opponent passing yards per game and 70th in opponent passing plays allowed of 20 or more yards. That means if that really good Ducks O-line can keep Nix upright for the most part, his weapons, Troy Franklin and Tex Johnson, could be a really big problem and rack up some huge numbers.

Nix’s passing yards prop for this rivalry game is set at 302.5. He’s gone Over that number in three straight games and in four of his last six. He's averaging 321.7 passing yards per game and has barely played a full game this season. With this being a must-win game, on top of a rivalry game, I’m betting Nix gets plenty of fourth-quarter minutes. It also means I’m betting him to go Over his passing prop.

My best bet: Bo Nix Over 302.5 passing yards (-114 at FanDuel)

Oregon State vs Oregon same-game parlay

Bo Nix Over 302.5 passing yards

Over 61.5

Tez Johnson anytime TD

As always, our same-game parlay kicks off with my best bet, which for this massive Pac-12 matchup is Nix to go Over his passing yards. And I think those passing yards will lead to some points for the Ducks, but the Beavers won’t be held scoreless either.

This is a really good and physical Beavers team that loves to run the football, led by quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei and running back Damien Martinez. Oregon State ranks 15th in the nation in yards per play and it was the more physical team in last year’s meeting, which the Beavers won 38-34.

Now, Oregon’s defense is better this season, but if Oregon State can keep DJ out of third and long scenarios, the Beavers should be able to do enough damage to send this one Over the total.

And let’s close this SGP out with one of those players who should find the end zone in this one. I’m going with Ducks wideout Tez Johnson. Johnson and Nix have been in sync the last three games, connecting for five touchdowns. Johnson also has at least one score in four of his last five games.

Oregon State vs Oregon spread and Over/Under analysis

Oregon opened this rivalry game as a 14-point home favorite and has been bet down slightly to 13.5 as of Tuesday evening. It may be a little surprising, but this will be the first time all season Oregon State has been an underdog, and it’s nearly two touchdowns, but you have to respect what the Ducks are doing this season.

Outside of the loss to Washington, Oregon is absolutely crushing its opponents, ranking second in the country in average scoring margin when facing FBS opponents at 25.4 points per contest, and as a result is 9-2 ATS.

These teams are both strong in the trenches, but Oregon has the better quarterback and weapons on the outside. That said, two touchdowns feels about right for this matchup. And with it being a rivalry game where weird things can happen, I’m staying away from the spread.

The total hit the board at 62.5 and the early money has been on the Under, dropping the number to 61.5. Oregon is a powerhouse, putting up 46.6 points per game, which ranks second in the nation. Oregon State hasn’t been too shabby either, averaging 36.3 points per contest

While I don’t expect either team to get to those numbers, I do expect both teams to move that ball at a decent rate in this game, and that’s why I’d lean toward the Over.
