The time for excuses is over for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets, who will have newly acquired Davante Adams on the field as they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight.
My Jets vs. Steelers predictions weigh in on the spread and total for a matchup where both teams are under major scrutiny, and I’m also wagering on the Wilsons — Russell and Garrett — to be among the storylines in this October 20 primetime battle.

Jets vs Steelers SNF best bets
Jets -2
It’s been a turbulent couple of weeks for the New York Jets after firing Robert Saleh and trading for Davante Adams, but they can quieten the noise with a much-needed win on SNF.
While Adams’ arrival won’t be a cure-all remedy for New York, it should turbocharge an offense that had promising moments in Week 6 yet still finished with 20 points.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to make changes of their own, with Russell Wilson replacing Justin Fields under center. That may spark the passing game, but it removes the threat of Fields’ ability to make plays with his legs.
Though the hosts bounced back from consecutive losses to cruise past the Raiders last weekend, this is a different proposition, with New York giving up the second-fewest passing yards per game this year (148.8).
After three straight losses, this is a must-win matchup for the Jets, and I’m counting on quick passes from Rodgers to frustrate T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh pass rush.
Over 39
The Steelers would love to drag this into a low-scoring scrap, but I’m predicting enough offense to hit the Over at Heinz Field.
That’s a nod to what Rodgers should be able to do with Adams and Garrett Wilson creating separation, but also a wager on Russell Wilson reviving George Pickens in the Pittsburgh passing attack.
Both teams cashed in the Over in Week 6 with some meaningful numbers. Rodgers racked up a season-high 294 passing yards on Monday against the Bills, while Najee Harris had his first 100-yard rushing game of the year.
I’m expecting a scoreline similar to the last Jets-Steelers clash on October 22, which New York edged 24-20.
Russell Wilson Over 0.5 interceptions
It’s a bold call from Mike Tomlin to make a quarterback change with the Steelers sitting at 4-2, even with the Fields optimism fading a little since the opening weeks of the season.
Ultimately, he’s gone with the upside and experience that Wilson brings, but it’s worth remembering the former Seahawks QB has been hampered by a calf injury and hasn’t started a game since last December.
Still, Wilson will surely love the idea of making a statement in this primetime slot. Though that could be a boost for the Pittsburgh pass-catchers, I also see it leading to some high-risk throws.
He tossed 11 interceptions in his first season with the Broncos, and there could be the same tricky transition to this Steelers offense. At even money, I’m picking Wilson to make a costly mistake in his big return.

Garrett Wilson anytime touchdown
What a wild week for Garrett Wilson.
After 21 catches, 33 targets, 208 yards, and two touchdowns in his last two outings, Wilson became the subject of trade rumors once New York landed Adams.
For now, he’s still a Jet — and I don’t see Wilson suddenly losing a big chunk of targets.
If anything, it should open up more man coverage for the third-year receiver, and no one could expect his 23 targets against the Vikings to be a sustainable number on a playoff-caliber team.
The speculation about his future may even give Wilson an extra edge. He’s gained Rodgers’ trust through the first six games, and he’ll continue to be a popular red zone target if New York can move the ball consistently against a talented Pittsburgh defense.
Wilson already has three touchdowns this year, and I like this price for another score tonight.
