Panthers vs Bills Prediction, Picks & Odds for This Week’s NFL Preseason Game

It's the final week of the NFL preseason and both teams will want to get in and get out of this game with no injuries, so our NFL picks are targeting a rather low total.

This Saturday we see the Panthers vs Bills in Buffalo, with both teams hoping to finish their preparation for the regular season in style. Given the early team news out of both camps, our Panthers vs. Bills predictions focus on the total.

Find out why my NFL picks are backing the Under on Saturday, August 24.

My analysis
The markets have seen a lot of movement for the Carolina Panthers at Buffalo Bills since opening with news impacting the potential for this game. As always preseason is about how much we’ll see from the starters and in particular the quarterbacks.

Heading into this game we’ve had Dave Canales confirm that the Panthers starters on both offense and defense will be playing on Saturday. We’re yet to see anything from Bryce Young in either preseason game so far, with the team choosing to play Jack Plummer and Jake Luton under center in both games. We’re yet to even see the team’s main backup Andy Dalton play either, but it’s likely that we’ll see him too.

The reason used by Canales for the absence of starters so far was that they didn’t have a “grasp of the system.” Has that changed in just a few weeks? That’s the question we have to ask as bettors, especially when these offense struggled horrifically last season. This is not a good team and given how Young played last season, throwing just 11 touchdown passes, tied for a record low for any QB with 500+ attempts, it’s fair to question whether the starters will really help them.

Meanwhile, we’ve also heard from Sean McDermott that we won’t see the Bills starters at all, which isn’t a surprise given that we had seen Josh Allen already this preseason. With the news of no Allen or Bills starters, and the knowledge we’ll see at least a series or two from Young and co, it saw the markets move hugely, with the Panthers becoming favorites.

The points total also dropped from 35.5 down to 31.5. It’s a number that might well drop sooner, with some books already moving to 30.5. The Panthers have scored just 15 points across two games this summer, with neither of their two games hitting a total of 30 or above. Even with Young are they going to be putting up big numbers? It’s unlikely.

Then we have the Bills who have also scored just 15 points across both preseason games and last week held the Steelers to three points. These are two offenses that won’t be explosive and we should see a low-scoring game.
