Saquon Barkley first TD scorer (+420 at Caesars)
You probably saw this one coming, but there’s no other real way of tackling the Philadelphia Eagles in this market.
While Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown are both more than capable of scoring the first touchdown, you simply can’t look beyond Saquon Barkley. The 27-year-old opened the scoring in the Eagles’ Conference Championship win over the Commanders by ripping off an incredible 60-yard run.
The Eagles’ offense runs through Saquon, and with good reason: He’s been a game-changer since arriving from New York. He’s scored 20 times in 19 games and is on a great run with five touchdowns in his past two.
While the Chiefs have opened the scoring in both of their playoff games, it’s worth noting the first touchdown they’ve conceded on both occasions has been a run.
Kareem Hunt first TD scorer (+900 at Caesars)
The Kansas City Chiefs offer a slightly more intriguing option. Travis Kelce is obviously reliable, but despite his big-game ability, I’m still a little concerned by how few times he’s scored this season.
The logical choice to score first, is the decidedly un-sexy pick of Kareem Hunt. It’s not the wildest pick, but you simply can’t fault big +900 odds on the RB opening the scoring.
Don’t worry about Isiah Pacheco; this is Hunt’s backfield for the remainder of this season. Pacheco has just 10 carries in two playoff games, with Hunt on 25 and looking far more dynamic with those touches, too. We’ve seen Hunt rack up nine touchdowns this season but what’s fascinating is he’s scored in four straight games.
Look closer, and you’ll see it was Hunt who opened the scoring in both of the Chiefs’ playoff games so far, with the team really leaning on the run in the red zone. That’s been their strategy so far, and they’ve been able to use Hunt to pound the ball into the endzone.
Despite the Eagles’ run defense, there’s no reason to think Hunt won’t at least get the opportunity to score when the Chiefs get inside the 20.
