Super Bowl Odds: Saquon Barkley a Popular MVP Bet for Chiefs vs Eagles

A running back hasn't won Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis in 1998 but that hasn't stopped bettors from backing Saquon Barkley to earn the honors as money continues to pour in on the Eagles.

Super Bowl 59 is right around the corner, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles set to battle it out in the Big Easy at the Caesars Superdome.

While there has been slight line movement to the Super Bowl odds, the Chiefs remain a short favorite to win their third consecutive championship.

Here are the latest betting insights with Super Bowl 59 in sight on Sunday, February 9.

Caesars Sportsbook taking Philly action

Our Covers team has boots on the ground for Super Bowl 59, and colleague Jason Logan reinforced what the line movement at Caesars Sportsbook is telling us ahead of the big game. The shop continues to take action on the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs are down to a -1 favorite after opening at -2.

This moneyline is also priced closer than ever, with KC at -115 and Philly at -105, as of Wednesday morning.

Super Bowl 59 is inching closer and closer to pick’em territory, with a five-point vig a small gap between the -110 split on both sides of the spread and the noted moneyline prices.

Total standing still

Unlike the spread and moneyline, the total for Super Bowl 59 has stalled at 49 after dropping from 49.5 last week. The Caesars betting splits showcased an 80% ticket count with 79% of the betting handle on the Over as of Tuesday, so the shop will be rooting for the Under.

Still, one of the biggest Super Bowl 59 bets, and the first reported six-figure wager, was on the Under 49.5 and placed at Caesars early last week.

All eyes on Saquon

Eagles running back Saquon Barkley continues to hog headlines and — ahead of Super Bowl 59.

Caesars tweeted out a $20,000 wager was placed on the first-year Philly back to be named the Super Bowl MVP at +220 odds. With 442 rushing yards and five touchdowns across three postseason wins, Barkley has been the Eagles MVP to this point, but Super Bowl MVP history tells us it’s most often a quarterback’s award.

A quarterback has been named Super Bowl MVP 33 times (57%), and only seven running backs have earned the honor. The last was Denver Broncos star Terrell Davis all the way back in 1998 at Super Bowl 32.
