When it comes to betting Super Bowl odds, it's usually best to operate by the numbers. In that case, I’m going to take that somewhat literally with my latest Super Bowl player props.

This bet is all about the numbers... jersey numbers.

Will the jersey number of the player who scores the first touchdown of Super Bowl LVII be Over or Under 11.5?

Maybe it's not an age-old question, but it's fun to have a wager on the first score, and I actually believe I've found some value in the market.

Super Bowl 57 Jersey Number First TD Scorer pick

  • Jersey Number of 1st Touchdown Scorer Over 11.5 (+105)

Pick made on February 9, 2023.

If you like someone with a jersey number Under 11.5 to score the first touchdown of the game, your main weapons are the Philadelphia Eagles trio of Jalen Hurts, A.J. Brown, and DeVonta Smith.

As well, you will be handed Kansas City Chiefs running backs Isiah Pacheco and Jerick McKinnon.

Hurts and the Birds' dynamic duo at wide receiver are the main worry here as the Chiefs allowed a lot of touchdowns to opposing wideouts this season. However, the Eagles have only allowed five rushing touchdowns since the start of December, so Pacheco and McKinnon may not be quality red-zone threats on Sunday.

The Under is the favorite here at -130, but I think the true value here actually lies with the Over.

That side of the jersey number debate is tantalizing for a number of reasons. For starters, the Over includes tight ends Travis Kelce and Dallas Goedert, as well as lead RB Miles Sanders. Kelce and Sanders are currently the two favorites in the anytime TD market.

If you side with the Over, you also get the entire Eagles’ running back room with not only Sanders but Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott. It's important to note that Philly led the entire league in rushing touchdowns during the regular season.

On the Chiefs’ side alongside Kelce, you get an active Clyde Edwards-Helaire and a sneaky-good target in Kadarius Toney. Don’t forget about Patrick Mahomes either, as the star quarterback scored the opening touchdown of Super Bowl LIV against the 49ers.

With the two favorites to score in the big game, taking the Over 11.5 at plus money is the right play.

The sportsbook where he does the bulk of his betting is bet365 thanks to its numerous prop betting options and competitive odds. His best advice? Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It’s not an interesting story. Seriously.
