The Edmonton Oilers are three wins away from tying the NHL record for most consecutive victories and look to have a free one tonight vs. the Chicago Blackhawks who lost in Seattle on Wednesday and have dropped 18 straight road games.
Despite being a 2.5-point favorite in the NHL odds tonight, there is some value to be had with Edmonton’s secondary scorers, especially if the potential positive game script keeps the big names on the bench more than usual.
I break down the odds and offer my free NHL picks for Blackhawks vs. Oilers on Thursday, January 25.

Blackhawks vs Oilers predictions
There aren’t a lot of spots to find value with the Edmonton Oilers as gigantic -650 favorites, but second-line winger Warren Foegele to record a point at -105 is one of the few.
He is getting middle-six minutes, which is a great spot tonight as Edmonton is projected to play with the lead. That could take away minutes from the top names and filter down to guys like Foegele, who has pointed in eight of the 14 games during the streak and has five points with three goals over the last three contests. He had two points in Edmonton's last game vs. Columbus, including a power-play goal.
Foegele currently ranks sixth on the team in points/60, ahead of Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard, and his 2.61 points/60 is well above Toronto captain John Tavares’ 2.41 mark.
This is the best offensive matchup a team can get as the Chicago Blackhawks have a bottom-tier penalty kill and rank 30th in expected goals allowed/60. Their 5-on-5 save percentage is also a Bottom-10 mark.
Petr Mrazek will start for the visitors who are traveling across a time zone after being in Seattle last night. Mrazek just inked a deal that he wouldn’t have received with any other organization thanks to Chicago not having any talent on the roster and needing to hit the cap floor. The veteran goalie has certainly played above his career numbers this year and regression is coming.
Foegele is in a great spot to point tonight and contribute to a team that has an implied team total of nearly 5.0 goals. A potential increase in minutes is also something that would be very welcomed.
My best bet: Warren Foegele Over 0.5 points (-105 at Sports Interaction)

Blackhawks vs Oilers same-game parlay
It's tough to add anything to the SGP with an Under and a reverse puck line. Getting a two-goal cushion is something I'm happy to take in any NHL game while both teams have been very prfotable to the Under this year and even more of late with a 5-15 O/U combined rate across the last 10 games. Avoiding Edmonton empty-net goals might be the difference between winning or losing this play but this is a once-in-a-season chance to bet a +2.5 with an Under 6.5 at these odds.

Blackhawks vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis
The Oilers have ripped off a franchise-best 14 straight victories and sit three games short of the NHL record held by the 1992-93 Pittsburgh Penguins. They have accumulated the wins in every possible way, including five after trailing in the first period.
The team is healthy, the 5-on-5 production has been elite, the power play has been below its usual standard, and the 1.64 GAA is only worse than the Jets since the streak started in mid-December. Everything is going right for the Oilers, who will start Calvin Pickard — 3-0 with a .905 SV% over the streak.
For Chicago, everything is wrong. It's a league-worst 4-21-1 on the road and has dropped 18 straight road games — 17 in regulation with a -53 goal differential. This is the worst team in hockey that played in Seattle last night and is traveling across a time zone.
But betting is a numbers game and +475 is a price that doesn’t come around often. In fact, this is the longest dog over the last two seasons. I’m not advocating to play the Hawks’ ML, but hockey is a game of bounces and variance more than other sports and the irony is getting thick here.
Just ask those who bet on the Hawks last year in Game No. 81 vs. Pittsburgh when they closed at +450 in a game Chicago wanted to lose and Pittsburgh needed to win. Hockey doesn’t always play out the way it should.
I would respect you more for looking at the Chicago side than anything on Edmonton’s side in terms of the ML or PL. The Blackhawks are paying -110 at +2.5. That is wild and resembles something more out of an international tournament than a January NHL game.
The Under 6.5 looks like the side I’d rather take as well. Combined, these two clubs are 5-15 O/U over their last 10 games and the Oilers have tightened things up over the streak with a 4-10 O/U including 10 straight Under cashes. They’re averaging 5.5 total goals per game over that 14-match window with Chicago sitting at 5.47 total goals over the same stretch.
Only once or twice a year do bettors see a matchup this one-sided.
