While the Edmonton Oilers hit a bump in the road during their 6-5 home loss to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, the Oil land in a perfect bounce-back spot against the Boston Bruins at Rogers Place on Thursday, December 19.
This is the final stop of a five-game road trip for Boston, and our Bruins vs. Oilers predictions expect Edmonton to return to the wins column tonight.

My Oilers analysis
The Edmonton Oilers fell victim to the defending Stanley Cup champs last time out in a high-scoring, 6-5 loss. This is an opportunity to return to the win column, with the Boston Bruins playing the final leg of a five-game road trip through the Western Conference.
Edmonton is a statistically superior team at 5-on-5 and on the power play, and while Boston has a better penalty-kill percentage, the Oilers' 86.8% mark across their past 17 games is the second-highest in the league. And, there's nothing scary about the Bruins power play.
Bruins | Oilers | |
---|---|---|
5-on-5 CF% | 49.6% (18th) | 53.9% (3rd) |
5-on-5 xGF% | 51.9% (10th) | 53.8% (5th) |
GF/GP | 2.61 (23rd) | 3.29 (8th) |
GA/GP | 3.15 (23rd) | 2.9 (12th) |
PP% | 12.9% (31st) | 22.8% (11th) |
PK% | 77.5% (21st) | 73.3% (26th) |
Additionally, before the Florida debacle on Tuesday, Oilers No. 1 Stuart Skinner won five of six starts with an elite .942 save percentage, 1.68 GAA, and 1.28 goals saved above average per 60.
Finally, I also value the Bruins allowing the third-most goals per game (3.69) on the highway, and the Oilers averaging 4.33 per across their past nine games at Rogers Place.
Oilers vs Bruins same-game parlay (SGP)
I’m going to continue leaning on Oilers center Leon Draisaitl in the shots market. He’s recorded three or more shots in 12 of the past 17 games, and his 6.94 shots and 13.27 attempts per 60 to start the year have climbed to respective 9.49 and 14.99 marks over the noted 17-game stretch.
Without a doubt, Boston doesn’t check out as a high-end matchup for opposing shooters, but Draisaitl is also matchup-proof. He ranks in the 95th percentile for offensive zone time at even strength, 94th percentile for shots on goal, and sports an elite 59.6 CF% at 5-on-5.
Turning to Bruins winger Brad Marchand, he’s cooking along a seven-game point streak consisting of five goals and two assists. There’s a lot of unsustainable puck luck built in, though.
He sports a 22.7 shooting percentage during the heater, and he isn’t projected to skate with Boston star David Pastrnak, either. Marchand’s numbers have plummeted when he isn’t jumping the boards with No. 88 over the past three years.
Brad Marchand | With Pastrnak | Without Pastrnak |
---|---|---|
GF/60 at 5-on-5 | 3.33 | 2.56 |
xGF/60 at 5-on-5 | 3.3 | 2.8 |
GF/60 overall | 6.03 | 2.67 |
xGF/60 overall | 6.41 | 2.73 |
