Canucks vs Jets Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Canucks haven't been playing great, particularly on offense, so they will aim to counter the Jets with a stronger focus on the defensive end. Win or lose, we like this to result in a low-scoring game.

The Vancouver Canucks are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race and welcome the first-place Winnipeg Jets to Rogers Arena on Tuesday, March 18.

Goals have come few and far between for Vancouver down the stretch, and my top Canucks vs. Jets predictions and NHL picks call for another low-scoring affair in Vancity tonight.

Canucks vs Jets prediction

My Canucks pick: Under 5.5 (-120 at Pinnacle)

My Canucks analysis
It’s gone from bad to worse for the Vancouver Canucks offense through 17 games since trading away J.T. Miller, and they host the best defensive team in the league tonight.

First 50 games Last 17 games
Goals per game 2.84 (20th) 2.41 (28th)
Goals per 60 at 5-on-5 2.34 (20th) 1.81 (30th)
Shooting percentage at 5-on-5 9.5% (6th) 7.3% (28th)
Power-play percentage 22.8% (11th) 21.2% (19th)

And, while leading scorer Quinn Hughes is back after missing a chunk of the highlighted 17 games, the Canucks received another blow to the offensive attack with center Filip Chytil sustaining a concussion Saturday.

Turning to the Winnipeg Jets, they head to Rogers Arena allowing the fewest goals per game (2.28) and fewest goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (1.7), and No. 1 goalie Connor Hellebuyck continues to shine.

His .927 save percentage, 1.99 GAA, 36.0 goals saved above average, 2.12 adjusted GAA and 12.3 goalie point share all pace the NHL, and Hellebuyck sports an even better .940 Sv% and 1.49 GAA through eight starts since the 4 Nations Face-Off break.

With Vancouver up against it to outscore Winnipeg, I’m anticipating Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet to have his club batten down the defensive hatches to play a low-event brand and pave the way to this game going Under the number.

Canucks vs Jets odds analysis

There has been a sizable move to the Winnipeg side of this moneyline, with Pinnacle opening Jets -144 and hanging a -160 price on Tuesday morning. It’s not surprising given the state of the Vancouver offense, especially with Winnipeg leading the Presidents’ Trophy race.

This 5.5 total hasn’t seen a meaningful adjustment since opening at Pinnacle, and I doon't anticipate one ahead of puck drop barring Hellebuyck being given the night off.
