A Central Division tilt gets underway on Thursday evening with the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Winnipeg Jets as favorites in the NHL odds.

Colorado has fared well when these two teams have met over the past couple of seasons, winning five of the past eight meetings.

Will the Avs take care of business once again, or can Winnipeg pull off the upset on the road? Find out in our free NHL picks for Jets vs. Avalanche on Thursday, December 7.

Jets vs Avalanche predictions

Colorado continues to cement itself as the class of the Central Division, currently sitting in first place with a 16-7-2 record. The Avalanche have been an offensive juggernaut, ranking fifth in goals scored per game and in expected goals for per 60 minutes (xGF/60) at 5-on-5.

That is not to say they can’t hold their own in the defensive zone as well, ranking sixth in expected goal differential per 60 minutes at 5-on-5. Meanwhile, Winnipeg ranks 19th in the same category.

The Jets struggle mightily to find high danger scoring chances, and offensive regression is surely looming. They rank 28th in xGF/60 at 5-on-5, which puts them beneath the likes of Chicago, Arizona and Montreal. That’s not exactly the company you want to be in, and if that regression is going to come to fruition against anybody, it is likely Colorado.

The one aspect of this game where Winnipeg will boast the advantage is in net as Connor Hellebuyck is slated to take the crease. However, Alexandar Georgiev is expected to start across the ice and should be able to keep up with him. Entering this game in great form, Georgiev is 3-1-1 with a .927 SV% and a 2.31 GAA over his past six starts.

This success could continue against the Jets, a team he has recently fared well against. Over his past two starts against Winnipeg, Georgiev is 2-0 with a .936 SV% and a 1.50 GAA.

Jets vs Avalanche same-game parlay

Avalanche -1.5

Under 6.5

If you are going to take the Avs in this game, then I think it’s worth taking their puckline at +155 rather than laying the juice on their moneyline. Of Colorado’s 19 wins this year, 16 have come by at least a two-goal margin.

On the other hand, six of Winnipeg’s 10 losses have come by at least a two-goal differential. I expect to see a tight goaltending matchup between Hellebuyck and Georgiev, but that still leaves the door open for something along the lines of a 4-2 or 3-1 Colorado win.

There have now been six or fewer total goals scored in four of the past five meetings between these two clubs.

Jets vs Avalanche moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Avalanche opened as a -155 favorite before rising to about -135 as of Thursday morning.

However, the market typically swings in Colorado’s way, especially when they are on home ice and shorter than the two-dollar mark. If you’re going to buy into the Avs in this spot, I would suggest doing so sooner rather than later.

That brings us to the total, which is pretty much listed at 6 across the board. For the sake of the same game parlay, we are going with the alternate total of 6.5 because a longer number correlates better with Colorado -1.5.

Each of the Avs’ past two wins over the Jets came by a two-goal margin yet remained Under 6.5.
