A pair of Western Conference heavyweights will hit the ice at Rogers Place, with the Edmonton Oilers hosting the Colorado Avalanche on Friday, February 7.
Colorado is in a tough spot playing the second leg of a back-to-back road set, and my Avalanche vs. Oilers predictions expect Edmonton and superstar Connor McDavid to cure some poor puck luck tonight.

My Oilers analysis
The Edmonton Oilers have been dealt a tough run of puck luck with a 5.6 team shooting percentage and just 2.0 goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 despite generating 3.36 expected goals per 60 across their past four games.
Despite the Colorado Avalanche hanging among the contenders in the Stanley Cup odds, this should still prove to be a slump-busting matchup for the Oil offense.
Colorado will be suiting up for the second leg of a back-to-back road set, and it will also be the third game in four nights and final contest before the two-week break for the Avs.
Edmonton will either face Colorado No. 1 Mackenzie Blackwood after he started last night against the Calgary Flames, or Avs backup Trent Miner, who has two career NHL appearances.
Either way, I’m expecting the Oilers to be in the driver’s seat all night.
Edmonton has won 28 of its last 40 games. At 5-on-5, it has a fourth-ranked 53.3 Corsi For percentage and a second-ranked 55.5 expected goals percentage. It also has a fifth-ranked 27.7 power-play percentage and a ninth-ranked 82.4 penalty-kill percentage.
In a tape-measuring matchup between two loaded rosters featuring multiple superstars, I’m confident in the rested home team.
Oilers vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)
In addition to the strengths highlighted during their 40-game surge up the standings, the Oilers have also allowed the seventh-fewest expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 (2.29) and the sixth-fewest per game (2.53).
Both teams have also trended to the Under of late, with Edmonton sporting an active 3-6 Over/Under record and Colorado entering on a 2-6-1 run.
Connor McDavid has only marked the scoresheet once at 5-on-5 since returning from his suspension despite being on the ice for 7.38 expected goals across the five-game stretch.
Amazingly, he’s still piled up six points, and I’m expecting the 5-on-5 puck luck to also flip in his favor Friday. Edmonton sporting a 4.6 team shooting percentage at 5-on-5 with McDavid on the ice the past five games is unsustainable. He was on the ice for a 10.4% mark through his first 43 games, after all.
