The New York Rangers are seeking a three-game win streak as they get set to host the Pittsburgh Penguins, who will be without captain Sidney Crosby.

New York is desperate for points as the team looks to put themselves back in a playoff picture, and my Rangers vs. Penguins predictions expect the home team to come out firing tonight.

Penguins vs Rangers prediction

My best bet
Rangers -1.5 (+118 at FanDuel)

My analysis
The New York Rangers have a different feel to their group now that they’ve played three games with J.T. Miller in their lineup. The Rangers have had back-to-back third-period comeback wins, and the top line of Miller, Mika Zibanejad, and Artemi Panarin seems to be clicking quite nicely.

Zibanejad boasts six points in his last three games, Panarin has added two goals with three assists, and Miller has already compiled four points in his return to New York.

Offensively speaking, the Rangers have been firing since the start of February. They’re scoring 3.33 goals per game and their power play is clicking at a 37.5% side.

On the flip side, the offense has not been producing for the Pittsburgh Penguins lately, and missing Sidney Crosby tonight will only make matters worse. Crosby has been leading the team in scoring over the past eight games with five goals and five assists, and Rickard Rakell is the only other player on the team who has been producing at a point-per-game pace. Over this span, Pittsburgh has averaged just 2.13 goals per game, including their PP scoring at just a 10.5% rate.

Igor Shesterkin will be in goal for the Rangers tonight, and the star netminder sports a 907 SV% and a 2.32 GAA over his last 11 starts. New York has one of its best defensive games of the season, having surrendered only 17 shots against the Bruins.

It’s going to be difficult for the Penguins to generate offense and keep pace tonight.

Penguins vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Rangers -1.5

Over 5.5

Adam Fox 1+ points

Miller has added new life to the Rangers offense, especially on the power play. While the Penguins will struggle without Crosby, a total of 5.5 is pretty low for two teams that have combined for at least six goals in four straight meetings.

Meanwhile, Adam Fox has eight points in his last nine games for the Blueshirts. As the quarterback of their first power play unit, Fox has a great first pass to lead the attack, and I expect him to keep the steady point production coming.
