Kraken vs Sabres Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Seattle Storms Buffalo

The Kraken have been red hot and stingy between the pipes. Tonight, they travel to Buffalo to take on a Sabres squad that has also played well of late but still struggles to keep the puck out of the net. Can Seattle emerge victorious as the road underdog?

The Seattle Kraken are sizzling, having reeled off six wins in a row as they embark on a six-game road trip.

Their first stop is in Upstate New York to take on a Buffalo Sabres squad that’s currently playing better than their 14th-place ranking in the Eastern Conference indicates.

It still seems strange, though, that Seattle — who’s in a three-way tie for the second and final Wild Card berth in the West — is a +100 underdog in the NHL odds.

Read below for my free Kraken vs Sabres NHL picks for Tuesday, January 9.

Kraken vs Sabres predictions

How does the fifth-lowest scoring team in the NHL rip off six straight wins? For the Seattle Kraken, it’s been about keeping the puck out of the net while still scoring enough to pick up two points. Last time out, it must have felt like a scoring bonanza, as they dumped the Ottawa Senators 4-1, the first time in nine games they’ve hit that plateau.

During this six-game fun run, Seattle has surrendered a total of six goals while averaging 2.67 goals for — a smidge below their season average of 2.69 goals. After a dismal start to the year, punctuated by an eight-game losing streak, Seattle is playing its best hockey, earning points in 10 straight, with an 8-0-2 mark.

The Buffalo Sabres have been stingy of late too, and considering it’s helped them win two straight for the first time since the calendar changed from October to November, they might be inclined to keep at it. The Sabres are coming off a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, which came after topping the Montreal Canadiens 6-1. That gives them two straight wins allowing two goals for just the second time this season. The Sabres have won three of their last four, but have just 38 points, with a stack of teams between them and the New Jersey Devils for the second and final Wild Card in the East.

Offense hasn’t generally been a problem for the Sabres this season, as they rank seventh in the NHL at three goals per game. Keeping the puck out of the net, however, has been. Buffalo ranks in the Bottom 10 for goals allowed at 3.33 goals per.

This matchup has a short shelf-life of history, as the Kraken just came into the league in 2021, but it’s been dominated by Seattle, having won all four head-to-heads, averaging better than four goals a game.

The Kraken don’t have the best road record — at 7-6-6, they are tied for the third-fewest away wins in the West — but they’ve ripped off three straight victories away from home.

However, the Sabres aren’t the best at KeyBank Center, tied for the fewest wins on home ice in the East. I like the Kraken to keep the good times rolling on Tuesday.

Kraken vs Sabres same-game parlay

Kraken moneyline

Under 6.5

Let’s raise the juice as we build a same-game parlay to go with our moneyline best bet and go with the total.

Seattle’s streak has been all defense and goaltender Joey Daccord, who has filled in admirably for the injured Philipp Grubauer. In Seattle’s last 10 games, he’s started nine, going 7-0-2 with a 1.31 goals-against average.

He’s been in net for five of the six wins in this current streak, and the Kraken have gone under the total in all six.

Buffalo hasn’t been racing past the total much either. Over their last five games, the Under has gone 4-1-0.

Kraken vs Sabres moneyline and Over/Under analysis

I’m still a little unsure how Seattle has been as long as a +110 underdog on the moneyline, considering their record against the Sabres and their current win streak.

Some books have closed the gap, with Seattle available for as short as a -111 ‘dog. As for Buffalo, they are available as a favorite at the low of -109, and as long as -133 at some sites.

As for the total, it’s stayed at or above six goals, but no books have stretched it to seven.

Both teams have winning Under totals, with Seattle going 20-16-3, and Buffalo at 22-16-2.
