The Edmonton Oilers escaped with a 3-2 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday and will be right back at it with a tilt versus the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center on Wednesday, February 5.
While Edmonton hasn’t been fully rewarded for its dominant 5-on-5 play of late, my top Oilers vs. Blackhawks predictions expect Chicago to be the perfect opponent for the Oil to cash in on their opportunities.
Read on for my NHL picks ahead of tonight's 9:30 p.m. puck drop on Sportsnet.

My Oilers analysis
It took a late third-period goal and overtime for the Edmonton Oilers to top the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Tuesday, and the Oil snapped a two-game losing skid in the process.
I expect the Oilers to build on the win in a big way against the Chicago Blackhawks tonight.
Edmonton has dominated at 5-on-5 per usual during the noted 1-1-1 stretch with a 59.8 Corsi For percentage and 62.3 expected goals percentage, but it’s tough to pile up wins with a 4.4 team shooting percentage.
With the Blackhawks sporting a 32nd-ranked 44.1 CF% and 31st-ranked 43.5 xGF% at 5-on-5, the Oilers will have more than enough chances to turn the puck luck in their favor tonight. Of course, Chicago has also lost 15 of its past 19 games with an even worse 42.3 CF% and 40.2 xGF.
Finally, Edmonton backup Calvin Pickard has been solid when called upon. He’s 13-4 for the season and has won five straight with a respectable .906 save percentage and and solid 2.37 GAA.
Oilers vs Blackhawks same-game parlay (SGP)
Both the Oilers and Blackhawks have long-standing trends to the Under. Edmonton has gone Under the number in 31 of its last 56 road games (+5.70 Units / 9% ROI), and Chicago has hit the Under in 40 of its last 84 games (+3.75 Units / 4% ROI).
Additionally, the Oilers have surrendered just 5.61 xGA at 5-on-5 across the past three games and have allowed the seventh-fewest per 60 minutes (2.31) for the season.
Turning to Edmonton star Leon Draisaitl, he’s been bumped up to a 3.5 shot total, but it’s priced at +115, and he’s also upped the shot volume during the highlighted three-game stretch.
Draisaitl has 24 shots on 40 attempts during the run. He’s been skating primarily with fellow superstar Connor McDavid the past two games, and the duo has gone for a 65.8 CF% and 64.4% shot share at 5-on-5 — they're really good.
Add Draisaitl’s go-to shooting role on the No. 1 power-play unit, and he'll continue living in the offensive zone tonight given the Blackhawks' highlighted possession shortcomings.
