Bettors might be getting a preview of a potential Stanley Cup Final tonight as the Edmonton Oilers roll into Beantown to take on the Boston Bruins. It’s a battle of two of the Top 5 Stanley Cup odds favorites, but the Bruins sit as plus-money home dogs thanks to the back-to-back situation.
Coming off a breeze of a win on Sunday vs. the Pens and seeing Nathan MacKinnon putting up four points last night, it could be another Connor McDavid night vs. a struggling Linus Ullmark and a Boston team that’s in a let-down spot.
I break down the NHL odds and offer my free NHL picks for the Oilers vs. Bruins on March 5.
Oilers vs Bruins odds
Oilers vs Bruins predictions
Before their win in Toronto last night, the Boston Bruins had allowed three or more goals in 11 straight games. They’re winning, but not in the same dominant way as the Edmonton Oilers. Considering a non-conference game and the Bruins playing Toronto last night and again on Thursday, this could be a great spot to be square and bet on Connor McDavid.
The price tag of Over 1.5 points sits at +110, which is a great number and is being inflated because of Boston's 3.60 GAA over its last 10 games.
Jeremy Swayman was in net last night so Linus Ullmark will likely get the nod. The now-back-up goalie is 0-4 SU in his last four turns with a very poor .864 SV%. His name has also been added to recent trade rumors which likely isn’t helping his focus.
He’ll face McDavid who has 30 points over his 14 games since the All-Star break, including 10 multi-point games with seven of those coming over his last eight games. The Edmonton forward also saw Nathan MacKinnon put up four points last night and tie Nikita Kucherov in the league’s point race where McDavid is eight points behind with six games in hand.
The reigning MVP is also playing on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman at even strength, which is much better for his output than playing with Warren Foegele. It’s square, but nobody can stop him right now.
My best bet: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points (+110 at SIA)
Oilers vs Bruins same-game parlay
I'm backing the side of the line movement today and that's with the Oilers who could be on the verge of another long winning streak.
Zach Hyman has been tapping in goals which works well with the McDavid Over 1.5 points best bet. The top line is unstoppable now with Draisaitl jumping up.
The Bruins went on an ugly stretch of allowing at least three goals in 11 straight games, and Ullmark is a little worrying if you're a Boston backer.

Oilers vs Bruins moneyline and Over/Under analysis
SIA opened the Bruins as +100 home dogs, but money has come in on the Oilers as the visitors have moved from -120 to -130. The total opened at 6.5 and has moved to a flat 6.0 as of noon today.
The move to Edmonton is the right one. The only thing that worries me about the Oilers is the travel from Alberta to Boston, but the Bruins were also in Toronto last night and have a tough schedule spot.
The thing I like about the Oilers is they’re starting to win like they did on their historic winning streak. That means holding opposing offenses to two or fewer, something they’ve done in all four of their consecutive wins. That’s trouble for the Bruins as they rank in the Bottom 10 in expected goal differential at 5-on-5, and have a per-game goal differential of -0.5 goals since the All-Star break.
Ullmark is a huge question mark and I’d rather fade the No. 2 than back him right now. The Bruins are rich in net and can afford to trade Ullmark, but his limited no-trade clause can make it hard. He is winless in his last four starts and has a sub .870 SV%.
His counterpart, Stuart Skinner, has found his way after a rough February. The Oilers' goalie has allowed just five goals over his last three games and was off Sunday, so he should be good to go tonight.
The Bruins have been playing some Over hockey lately, which has me leaning on the Over 6.0 now that Under backers have driven the price down. Boston has been giving up the goals, Ullmark is worrying, and McDavid and this front-end offense are going to be tough to keep down in a non-conference game.
