The Edmonton Oilers had their eight-game win streak snapped last time out, but they will look to get back into the win column in the NHL odds when they welcome the Florida Panthers to Rogers Place tonight.

Connor McDavid continues to light up the score sheet, skating into Saturday on an 11-game point streak with an NHL-leading 27 points over that span.

Will McDavid have another big night to lead Edmonton to victory? Find out in our NHL picks and predictions for Panthers vs. Oilers on Saturday, December 16.

Panthers vs Oilers predictions

The Edmonton Oilers had their eight-game win streak snapped by the Lightning on Thursday, but it wasn’t for lack of trying, as Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy made 53 saves en route to a 7-4 win.

Connor McDavid had another impactful night, tallying a goal and an assist plus seven shots in nearly 23 minutes of ice time. The Oilers captain has now recorded multiple points in five straight contests and nine of 11 outings during his point streak.

His 27 points since the streak began on November 20 are the most in the NHL, and with 2.45 points per game over that span, McDavid has now put himself back into the Art Ross Trophy race, just 10 back of Nikita Kucherov for the league lead.

McDavid should be poised for another strong showing against the Florida Panthers, who are coming off back-to-back 4-0 losses. Sergei Bobrovsky, who should be in between the pipes for Florida tonight, was in net for both of those games and has now allowed at least three goals in three of his last four starts while posting a 3.33 GAA and a .878 SV% in December.

The Oilers captain began his streak with a pair of goals against the Panthers back on November 20. Look for him to rack up at least two more points tonight.

Panthers vs Oilers same-game parlay

Connor McDavid anytime goalscorer

Sam Reinhart anytime goalscorer

Over 6.5

Our McDavid point prop isn’t available for the same-game parlay so we’ll switch over a McDavid goal — a good bet given that he’s scored in three of his last four games and five of his last eight.

We’ll also look for Sam Reinhart to score for the Panthers, the forward leads Florida with 17 goals this season and has had the hot hand, shooting nearly 24% on the year.

Finally, we’ll take the Over on 6.5 total goals as the Oilers own a Top-5 offense in the league while the Over has cashed in five of the last six meetings between these two clubs in Edmonton.

Panthers vs Oilers moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Oilers opened as the home favorite for this one, coming in at -132 on the moneyline, while the total was set at a lofty 7 goals. With the Panthers coming off back-to-back losses and McDavid once again looking like the best player in the league, I’m taking Edmonton while riding the Over.

Since Edmonton’s win streak started on November 24, the Oilers rank first in GPG (4.67) and fourth in GAPG (2.22). Meanwhile, the Panthers have averaged just 2.70 GPG over that span (24th), skating to a mediocre 5-4-1 record in those contests.

The Oilers’ offensive quartet of McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Zach Hyman has combined for an incredible 60 points over the team’s last nine games, while blueliner Evan Bouchard has also amassed 14 points of his own over that span. With the Panthers putting up goose eggs in each of their last two outings, I don’t see their offense keeping up with a red-hot Oilers attack.

That offensive depth should also help the Oilers push this game past seven goals, as Edmonton has scored at least four goals in five straight games and eight of its last nine outings.

Stuart Skinner had been on a nice run in the Edmonton net during the win streak but looked more like his usual self against Tampa Bay, allowing five goals on just 22 shots. The Oilers netminder carries an underwhelming .885 SV% this season, which should allow the Panthers to get off the schneid and score a few goals of their own to push this game to the Over.
