Red Wings vs Rangers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Tonight’s NHL Game

The Rangers are big moneyline favorites and we like Artemi Panarin to hit the back of the net, but these teams tend to play one another closely and the Red Wings will keep it tight at MSG.

The Detroit Red Wings hit the road tonight to face the New York Rangers at the iconic Madison Square Garden, the first of back-to-back games between the teams.

My Red Wings vs Rangers predictions have Artemi Panarin continuing his impressive start after a big performance against Utah on Saturday.

Let’s dive into my NHL picks for October 14.

Red Wings vs Rangers prediction

My best bet
Artemi Panarin anytime goal (+140 at FanDuel)

My analysis
Artemi Panarin had a monster season in 2023-24 for the New York Rangers, scoring 49 goals and tallying 71 assists for a team-leading total of 120 points. He was a major reason New York was on the doorstep of a Stanley Cup Finals appearance.

The veteran has also picked up where he left off in 2024-25 with two goals and two assists in as many appearances. The opener saw Panarin supply two assists in a win over the Pittsburgh Penguins before scoring twice in an overtime loss to Utah on the weekend.

Panarin also tends to play well against the Detroit Red Wings. In three games last season versus Detroit, the Russian had two goals and two assists. Overall, he has 32 points in 22 career games vs. the Red Wings, including 12 goals.

As a result, I like Panarin to find the back of the net on Monday. And, at +140, this wager is offering ample value.

Red Wings vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Artemi Panarin anytime goal

Red Wings +1.5

Under 6.5

While the Rangers have won three in a row against the Red Wings, both games last season were extremely close, ending 3-2 and 4-3. They were entertaining contests that went right down to the wire, with Detroit fighting until the very last minute.

The Red Wings are a gritty team that could very well beat the Rangers. However, if it does end up being a loss, the outcome will be decided by just a goal.

As for the Under, this looks solid because of the top-notch netminders on both sides. For Detroit, Cam Talbot has done a nice job so far. He came in to replace Ville Husso in the season opener and although he allowed two goals on 14 shots, Talbot bounced back with a shutout on Saturday against the Nashville Predators.

Husso was just placed on waivers, which means Talbot is now the main man in between the posts. He owns a 1.26 GAA and .982 save percentage in two appearances and will be feeling confident tonight.

For the Rangers, Igor Shesterkin is still considered one of the best goaltenders in the league. The 28-year-old notched a shutout against the Pens but then allowed a mind-boggling six goals vs Utah.

Will he keep Detroit out of his net completely? That remains to be seen. But, I firmly believe Shesterkin will respond here after getting rocked by the league’s newest franchise. This contest won’t be high-scoring.
