My analysis
While we’re taking an Under on Jake Oettinger, this isn’t about fading the Dallas Stars goalie. It’s about betting on the team in front of him to limit the Pittsburgh Penguins’ shots on goal total.
The Stars are one of the best teams in the league in terms of limiting shots on goal against with 27.62 on average per game — the eighth-best mark in the league. That number actually drops down to 27.33 per game on the road.
Dallas has allowed more than 28 shots in a game just three times this season and all of those games came in the first few weeks of the season. The Stars have allowed 28 shots or fewer in the other 10 of their 13 total games, including in each of their last seven contests.
While the Penguins are capable of racking up shots on goal, they’ve done so more against inferior teams. They’ve also weirdly had more poor shooting performances at home rather than on the road.
