Brown vs Salikhov picks

Fight prediction: Brown moneyline

After a solid 5-1 start in the UFC, Salikhov has started to regress with age, dropping two of his past three fights, the latest of which was a unanimous decision loss to Nicolas Dalby. Dalby outclassed him both on the mat and on foot.

Salikhov threw in less volume, landed nearly 30 less significant strikes and was out-controlled at a 6:1 ratio when in the clinch and on the mat. It was a poor performance from the Russian, and I think he’s going to keep regressing as he nears his 40th birthday.

Brown is six years younger, but that isn’t his only advantage in this matchup. He’s four inches taller and boasts a whopping eight-inch reach advantage, which will bode well in the striking department.
Meanwhile, I trust his 74% takedown defense to limit Salikhov’s takedown attempts. In fact, Brown has only been taken down once over his past six fights, posting a 5-1 record over that stretch with his only loss coming to the No. 11-ranked welterweight contender, Jack Della Maddalena.

Prediction: Randy Brown moneyline (-270 at Bet99)

Fight best bet: Brown by decision

We can knock down Brown’s -290 line to +125 if we take him to win via decision, and I think that’s Brown’s clearest path to victory in this scrap. Let’s go back to that four-inch height and eight-inch reach advantage Brown possesses in this fight.

That’s a massive differential, especially for the better striker. This size gap will allow Brown to keep Salikhov at distance, pick his shots, and rack up strikes to win rounds in the eyes of the judges.

This game plan is exactly how Brown won each of his past four fights, with all four of those coming via decision. I also already highlighted his strong takedown defense, which will leave Salikhov in a tough spot if this fight is standing for the majority of the 15 scheduled minutes.

This fight may not be the most entertaining battles, but Brown’s smartest game plan would be to keep Salikhov at distance with his massive size advantage and stay calm while picking his shots as the fight wears on. If the game plan is executed properly, then a decision victory is very much in the cards for Brown.

Pick: Randy Brown to win by decision (+130 at Bet99)

Brown vs Salikhov betting preview

There’s just a lot more to like about Brown in this fight than Salikhov, which is why he’s such a big favorite. Brown is younger, taller, longer, the better striker and possesses competent enough takedown defense to keep this fight standing.

He’s also in better form, winning five of his past six fights, while Salikhov has dropped two of his past three. Brown was the betting favorite in all five of those wins, while his lone loss to JDM during that stretch came as the underdog.

Expect a patient Brown to come out on Saturday night and outlast the older Salikhov with strikes from distance.
