Shakur Stevenson vs Edwin De Los Santos boxing prediction and best bet
Prediction: Shakur Stevenson ML
The odds indicate this turns out to be a mismatch, and it’s easy to see why.
When De Los Santos lost to Foster, he was outboxed and looked out of options when Foster showed he could handle his power. With De Los Santos’ power coming more from his aggression than just pure strength, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to catch a sharper, faster fighter like Stevenson.
Stevenson doesn’t take any risks, and against this kind of opponent, he won’t have to. If he keeps pumping his jab and circling away from De Los Santos’ left hand, he could potentially win every round.
Though Stevenson tends to take more risks against southpaws, De Los Santos not being a one-punch KO artist means he won't be able to take advantage of Stevenson during those moments.
If Stevenson wants to box, he can win every round easily and pitch a shutout. A knock on Stevenson could be that he can fight with a chip on his shoulder and is worried about being considered a boring fighter, so he might decide to engage in close quarters to look more impressive. Even when he does decide to fight like this, he’s still measured and not reckless.
I don’t see any avenue for De Los Santos to spring an upset. Stevenson is a generational talent and is too focused on his game right now to lose to an opponent with such a tremendous skill advantage.
Prediction: Shakur Stevenson moneyline (-1,200 at DraftKings)
Best bet: Over 10.5 rounds
I believe Stevenson is going to dominate De Los Santos. He's simply too quick and too smart to fall for De Los Santos’ tricks, and De Los Santos doesn’t have the kind of power or style to slow Stevenson down to punish him. The gap in talent is too wide.
If Stevenson doesn’t feel threatened, there is a chance he might try to stop him. Stevenson isn’t a big puncher, but he is accurate, and his hands are fast enough to flurry and cause a referee to step in. Even if he does manage to get that far, the chances are that a stoppage would come late in the fight after accumulation instead of brute force.
It's a possibility, but Stevenson might be comfortable with a decision if he's satisfied with the performance. With that said, the best bet I’ll make for the fight is the fight to go Over 10.5 rounds.
Prediction: Over 10.5 rounds (-475 at DraftKings)
Shakur Stevenson vs Edwin De Los Santos betting preview
Stevenson is currently the best technical boxer in the lightweight division and does a bit of everything. He has a great jab, excellent footwork, can counter effectively, and has very fast hands.
The only thing he's lacking is power, but he's coming off a sixth-round TKO win over Shuichiro Yoshino last April and dropped the rugged Oscar Valdez when they fought in 2022.
His opponent, De Los Santos, is an aggressive power puncher on a three-fight win streak. De Los Santos is a bit one-dimensional as he just pressures forward and tries to land a left hand. He was upset by William Foster III in 2022, then moved up in weight which resulted in this current winning streak.
This is a typical boxer vs. puncher bout. One thing to note is Stevenson tends to fight more aggressively against southpaws, which is what we saw when he knocked out Jamel Herring in 2021. De Los Santos comes into the fight two years younger than Stevenson and with a two-inch reach advantage.
