So far this year the offensive production by those players is more than the offensive production of the players you listed.
Elaborate a little more on the WAR stat.
Because Pujols and Cargo have score more runs, hit more homers, drove in more run, hit for better average and get on base more than Mark Reynolds.
Last time I checked...games are determined by the score (or runs scored) and he's losing in all of those categories.
So WAR is the best stat of them all? All other stats should just be thrown out the window because as long as the WAR stat claims the player is better...nothing else matters?

oWAR assumes that every player is an average defender and therefore the
stat utilizes the player's contributions from baserunning and batting,
the positional adjustment (to account for the difference in batting
stats at each position) and the replacement runs factor that counts
playing time the player kept from going to a replacement level player.

OPS+ is probably my favorite stat for comparing offensive players:
Right now Reynolds (not counting today's game) is at OPS+ 91
Cuddyer and Coughlan are also at 91
Players worse than Reynolds are:
Ichiro, McLouth, DLee, Carlos Lee, Markakis, Adam Dunn, Sam Fuld, Jeter, Morneau, Swisher, Gordon Beckham, Carl Crawford, Ajax, Matsui, Huff, Hanley Ramirez, James Looney, Inge, Uggla, Rios

You know what they say about people who assume.

im not going to get in the middle of this debate but what i will say is.... if jeffery maier didnt interfere with that derek jeter fly ball, the orioles win that game and the world series ... then the orioles dont spiral into oblivion making shit picks like picking up albert belle which crippled the franchise
aside from that, it was a great postseason in 1996, joe torre even had charlie hayes pinch hit for the great wade boggs.... but only i remember shit like this

Yeah that's all sad but true for us devout O's tenure fans; Ripkin; the 1966 team was stout; not sure what the Buck is going on lately as this team is in a real funk; Reynolds and Lee were stupid pick up and Buck has fools gold with many of his starting rotation

I'm looking at the numbers and, I'm sorry, but they don't mean a damn thing to me. Brendan Ryan is better than everyone mentioned. What is that trying to tell me? That Brendan Ryan more valueable than Pujols?

Learn to read. I never said Wieters was better than Posey.
I said if Wieters is a around a .780 OPS catcher and Buster is lets say .825 OPS catcher... Wieters is the better all around player because his defense is so superior.
There is no catcher in the league who can even compare to Wieters defensively. NO ONE. He has the quickest catch/release and might have hte highest caught steeling percentage. His ball averages around 86 MPH going down to 2nd base (90+ MPH at release and lower 80s when it gets to 2nd, he has the best arm of any catcher in the league and he use to be the closer for Gtech throwing mid 90s).
Arenciba is not even close to Wieters at this point. You can have him but he is an inferior catcher. He might not even become a better offensive catcher than Wieters.

So that makes him better "all around than Posey"... stop trying to sound like a scout, you are making yourself look stupid...

And P.S. Arencibia is leaps and bounds better than Weiters... are you that much of a homer... my goodness
No he is not. Offensively, right now he is, but as all around player and his value that he provides from the catching position, he is half the player of Wieters.

Oh dear God... fuck WAR and OWAR... Those stats are like tits on a BULL... Arencibia and Posey should not even be in the same sentence as Weiters.... I could careless if Weiters through 100MP to 2nd and threw out 90% of runners...
So are you a scout yet?

Everyone on here, for the most part, overlooks how important defense is and only cares about offense.
Defense is half the game while hitting is less than half the game as baserunning is also involved on offense. There are reasons there are players like Adam Everett, Adam Kennedy, Caesar Izturis who have roster spots and play a good amount of the time.
HINT, HINT it is not for their offensive value. These managers and GMs and people in baseball understand how important defense is, especially at key positions, and someone who is going to be a top defender at that key position is more valuable (even if they cant hit out of a wet paper bag) than another player who is suspect defensively but can hit a little.
Offense is the sexy part of baseball but defense is just as important, and in some cases more important than what offensive value a player can provide.
