I know the baby boomers want everyone locked away, easy for them being retired and all, but at some point we need to test out our collective immunities and frankly, we can't wait for a vaccine.Move to Texas Stu, the lieutenant governor agrees with you. Old boys like me need to volunteer to die for the sake of the economy. Thanx
No thank you. My parents, three of my four siblings, and plenty of other family are there. It's not for me. Too flat. I'd get depressed without topography.

Well then, I would guess your parents are old enough to volunteer, aren't they?
Yep. They don't whine and complain though. They're not asking for the world to be shut down. They stay in. They limit contact even with their own kids and grandkids. They realize that they can take measures of mitigation but ultimately it's in God's hands. You don't have to volunteer to die but something has to give. Baby boomers, or as I call them, the worst generation, continue to be the most entitled age group in the history of the United States. The spoiled children of the greatest generation, they still believe the world should revolve around them, regardless of how it affects the rest of the world, including their progeny. Could you imagine the people who lived through the dust bowl carrying on in this manner? The Boomers are the most undeservingly prosperous generation and now their pensions alone are wrecking whole industries. Meanwhile i've been paying into social security since I was 14 that probably won't exist when i'm old enough to collect it. And that's fine. I've done well for myself but frankly the buck has to stop somewhere. Why won't your generation go quietly into the night? Just look at the politicians who need to retire but seemingly are refusing too.

STU. Well, for one thing I am a year ahead of the baby boomers, so not technically a member of that generation. As for what I am sucking out of the economy; I paid every conceivable kind of tax for 50 years. All of them; income, federal-state-and even city when I lived in KC. Property tax, sales tax, vehicle tax, personal property tax (aside from and plus real estate) S.S., Medicare and I don't know how many special assessments of one type or another.
Social Security is not being broken by the current recipients, it is being broken by the fact that the SS Trust Fund has never been anything more than a shoe box full of I.O.U.'s from the Treasury. Neither party is exempt; the agreement has always been in place that by borrowing SS Trust Funds the Treasury can pay itself little or no interest and help the politicians not admit to the true depth of the budgetary deficit, year after year, year after year. Richard Nixon ended any farcical honoring (but not the deception) by simply ending the charade and proposing we count all federal income as income, period, and pay SS out of general revenue. So, while I and the boomers were paying in plenty (surplus) it was simply stolen for the general budget and used to disguise the true deficits. Now it is payback time. SS taxes no longer have billions of excess for the Treasury to steal and hide behind, they have billions in budgetary shortfalls because they have to pay back the stolen money. This whole thing that congress is trying to lie about is no secret or recent problem. The eventual situation was known 40 to 50 years ago and one congress simply pushed it off to the next. "I won't be around anymore, let future politicians deal with it!" All you have today is the chickens coming home to roost. They have always known it was going to happen and were too gutless to do anything about it. To tell me, or others like me, that we should die because of gutless politicians is about the height of insult. We PAID, and we turned over to you a better country and world than you probably deserve. The scientific, technological, medical, industrial and environmental progress of the last 50 years was not accomplished by a bunch of fat-ass hippies. If you think we are not entitled to what we worked for, earned and saved you can stick it where the sun don't shine.

Oh, BTW Stu, the problem will resolve itself in about 15 to 20 years as baby boomer generation dies, hopefully of natural causes and not because a few ignoramuses decided it was good idea. Just hang in there buddy. Another 15 to 20 years the politicians will be telling you SS/Medicare is once again "solvent" and, like Trump, telling you it was all thanks to them. They will probably be pols of your generation so be sure to give them big, hearty cheers.

Key, I don't want you or any boomer to just die. And I didn't say boomers are sucking the economy dry. I said their pensions are wrecking entire industries. And that they are the most entitled generation in history. Every subsequent generation is nearly as bad, my own included, but it started with the boomers. Spoiled long-haired hippies.

That was a very small percentage of boomers Stu, and most matured by the age of 30. In fact, the wife and I crack up when we see a 65+ hippie that just can't let go. I often wonder if they notice the lack of communes these days. There were no more true hippies than there were Vietnam Vets and if you would care to attack them...........c'mon baby, show me what ya got.

Question..
Why are you faulting the employee with regard to pensions? Isnt a pension a long term contract between employer and employee? To me the employee fulfilled their contractual obligation but the employer did not. A properly run pension is funded as it goes not by using faulty actuarial tables and buying third party insurance contracts to save money. A pension used to be a strong tool to keep good employees for long periods of time and reduced turnover. My inlaws both worked government jobs for 25-30 years at under private sector wages because they felt the long term security of a pension was worth the sacrifice of lower wages. I have a current friend who works for the police department at what I consider SEVERELY low salary for the risk he takes every day for the future promise of a pension after working for over twenty years at really low wages.
Pensions when they are funded properly (like the USPS) and structured properly are not a bad thing, but pensions that are not funded in the way they should be to save money yet get the benefit of low wages, AND pensions that are not tightly structured are not good examples of what a pension should be.

I was more curious as to your take if that was the case. Some people do fault the employee so I was curious if that were the case (as you could tell from my reply lol)

Stu: I had a brother-in-law (R.I.P.) that used to describe some guys as that they had to back up with hand extended behind them to accept their pay because they were too ashamed to face the boss when they received it. On the other hand my father advised that if the man paid you what you agreed to work for and you worked honestly for it, then there was never any reason to refuse it, or to feel overpaid. I never backed up for a paycheck in my life, and I have no reason to give anything back or die early and leave something on the table. You can also remember how many people die close to retirement or just after, and that money (supposedly) is supposed to go back into "the pool" for those that are lucky enough to live a little longer. According to the actuarials that is part of the plan. BTW: I understand much of what you post is just to get under my skin or get me excited about a topic. I can live with that because you are not evil of heart, just communicating and maybe having a little fun with me.

Hold the freak up! When have I posted ANYTHING to "just get under your skin". I can count on one hand the number of people I have ever posted something on this site just to get under the skin of. My original comment, though semi in jest, and semi sincere, wasn't even so much directed at you as it was an answer to a question you posed. Maybe the question was rhetorical. At very least i'm sure it was meant to incite one of the further right leaning posters but I answered based on my feelings about Covid-19, which is what this thread is about, and not politics.

Well that didn't take long. Banner Health System, largest hospital group in Arizona, reports they are already at capacity in ICU from Covid-19. The states answer is increase capacity by 25 to 50%, as though you just do that overnight. State, in a move that makes much more sense, is preparing to construct field hospitals. Now I know many folks think the the numbers are spiking because of more testing, but no matter how little or much you test, that does not fill up ICU wards, with the most severe cases, contracted disease is what fills them up. If we had had those millions of available tests sooner, we may have gotten a jump on this, but they were not available or distributed. Meanwhile, my fellow Arizonans have mostly closeted their masks and are enjoying life. My zip code is right next door to the zip with the highest infection rate in the state. DJT and Governor Ducey tell me not to worry, the worst has passed, get out, spend money, boost the economy. I wonder why my confidence level in our "leaders" is so low.

I'm not sure there's a lot good about Covid-19 but I have to admit the pandemic has actually been beneficial for me. I've been working part time since all our customers aren't coming back yet. So Republicans may hate the unemployment bonus but it's been nice to get rewarded for my hard work for once. I actually want my boss to recall me at some point. She's in worse health and because she's so insane and suffers from her mental disorder, she won't change any of her damn behavior before dying. I will have a business of my own at some point and I don't really want the unemployment in the long term. I want the real money I deserve but that shall come with time, which may happen by the time summer is over, quite frankly. I'm also in even better shape now, even though I was already pretty good before. I've been implementing lots of planks every day and that's something I wasn't doing when I went to the gym. I can't really complain since I've been enjoying more free time and getting so fit.
The negative is no sports. I do have a lot of random stuff to watch on TV but the quality of programming is garbage overall without sports now. I guess I took for granted how ubiquitous they were. I never considered that something would suddenly shut them down and some leagues wouldn't even have a plan in place. I've seen some people say they don't really need sports. Maybe if you're doing a lot of things and you're so busy that you don't have the free time to watch. I usually have a 3-day weekend with Mondays off and that gives me the ability to do more, including watching the games I want to see the most. What I'm wondering is if coronavirus could be worse in the fall (CDC director), then how can the NFL play the season without a problem? Wouldn't a repeat of prior events occur? Even if they can rapidly test them, what if the virus mutates further? We technically only know so much about it right now, meaning we really can't be too sure about what's to come.

To safely reopen economy, best way to reduce virus air transmission is to wear masks according to National academy of sciences. Over 60,000 coronavirus cases prevented after masks mandated in New York between April 17 and May 9. Also Cambridge study suggests widespread mask wearing could prevent second wave of infections.
McTrap, Raider22, Sundance and others have promoted misinformation harmful to public health flagged by facebook. Face checker politifact rated false claims that mask wearing reduce oxygen intake, increase toxin inhalation, weaken immune system, increase virus risk, scientifically inaccurate or effectiveness not studied. Lack of evidence back nonsense claims according to Texas A&M university, Cleveland clinic and Columbia university.

Good post.
Covid-19 hasn't gone away, it is still hurting and killing the population. Opening economy must be guided with social distancing measure, wear a face mask or covering in public, keep 6-feet apart and wash hand with soap frequently.
Social distancing saves lives. Listening to doctors not the politician when coping with this highly transmissible and deadly pandemic.

Every scientific organization in the world has declared masks and social distancing to be the best precautions. So what? Young America doesn't care. The Golden Calf and his primary representative do not care. "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

Give it a shot. Go run up a few flights of stairs wearing one. See if you can tell a difference. Why do you think the gyms don’t enforce it.
Thats one you can try out for yourself. The others were all peer-reviewed studies. You can easily try to refute the studies one at a time if you like. Doubt it would be productive. But you can give it a whirl.
Or you can choose to opt for the liberal-media agenda and current narrative.

Raiders22- I live in Arizona in the zip code next door to the zip with the highest infection rate in the state. And a state that is spiking. I think I will opt for the liberal-media-cdc-expert agenda if that is OK.

Thank you Turd Blossom Person, for bestowing me with that badge of honor. You must use the same junk science fiction comedy writers as Dr. Franken Fraudci.
Whenever a card carrying member of the CULT of DISINFORMATION mentions you by name, you then know the truth that's been told, has shined a bright light on their dark agenda.
New WHO Guidelines For Face Masks Admit No Known Medical Benefits - Psychological Brain Washing
From the WHO: " The widespread use of masks by healthy people in the community setting is not yet supported by high quality or direct scientific evidence."
healthimpactnews.com
So as you can plainly see, even the Bill Gate's controlled WHO admits the truth. And let's not forget, both the CDC and the WHO both originally stated that healthy people should not wear a mask. The fact that there have been so many contradictory statements made about guidance, is a huge red flag that indicates lies are being covered up.
There now. We have all been returned to reality.
Relax. I'm unvaxxed!
