I’m just trying to be Michael Jackson in the “ Beat It “ video when he gets the two rival gangs to stop fighting by taking a break from slicing each other’s faces off to instead come together peacefully by way of a highly rhythmic and choreographed dance number .
Too much animosity in here .
gyrate your hips with me fellas . There’s a better way

She is in a dicey spot right now. A couple of the Economic publications had some interesting takes on her options on that.
The Financial Times was positing the idea that she will actually have to double down on Bidenomics — or at least the corporate power parts of it.
One of the examples they used was the big business donors complaints about Khan, the FTC chair.
The tricky part is how to counter Vance’s support of Khan and the anti-trust chair Kanter.
Their point was she cannot allow herself to be tied down as a ‘coastal elite supporting big business’ — like the Republicans did with Hillary.
The bigger issue is that Harris really has no record here. Her past has been more along the lines of social issues and not about antitrust issues or big business bad actions.
So, what happens when her campaign realizes this and they realize that the key issues that affect a lot of the ‘swing states’ in the midwest, etc. are more economic related. She will still have to acknowledge some of the good that has been done by Khan and Kanter, while drawing a distinction from what the Republicans plan would be and what hers would be.
But she has to do this and not alienate the huge support from her big business donors that she has gotten recently.
As they point out, she has to keep up the momentum that she has right now.
The Economist presented it another way. They pointed out that her campaign has to phrase Bidenomics somewhat differently. She has been replacing the phrase ‘build back better’ with ‘freedom to thrive’.
So, the campaign is trying to draw a distinction between the two while, at the same time, contrasting it against a Trump set of policies.
The issue is always going to come down to whether she can present herself to enough people as a Biden-Liberal and not just a Harris-Leftist. The social issues may energize enough of the base to make sure they come out and vote. But the very, very few true ‘Independent’ voters in a very, very few states may be more concerned about the economy. She has to be able to convince these voters that she has a plan to help them.
I am not so sure how simply doubling down on Bidenomics will play; I think she has to say she will ‘improve’ on it in some ‘great’ way.
But in no way can she completely abandon it.
There is no way to swerve the illegal immigration issue — she absolutely has to own that and hope not enough ‘swing voters’ care about it. The social issues she will always have the votes on — because they vote how they vote. But the economic issues is where she has to navigate carefully.

@BigGame90
The issue isnt tit for tat, that is not the point at all even though your side will use this ploy to rationalize the zero ego sewer rat that is Trump...the issue isnt that one side does it so my side can do it, that MIGHT work with stiff old white guy Biden but it cant work with Harris. You cannot slander her and think it will work because it will not work.
If your side tries the good ole personal attacks and slander schemes that you enjoy Trump doing, it is so endearing and fun well it will cause all the voters who will ALSO feel attacked to support her even more. Your side is weakest vote wise in the very area that she is strongest, ALSO your side is exposed inside your own ranks in the areas she is strongest.
You have the angry white Christian gun loving vote, nobody disputes that and it was never in question. The vote you can lose is the female vote, the minority vote INSIDE your own party. Harris has the minority and female vote in her party, Trump will get crushed in those areas but she can get that very vote from the RNC if Trump plays his bully scheme on her.

@Raiders22
Here is the rub to your scenario..it makes generalizations of how the discussion and debate will go and it also implies that your side and candidate is going to go down that road himself and discuss these kinds of topics in the next 4 months to a degree that it would harm her voting chances.
You speak in the weeds of political topics, its stuff that educated advanced economics theologians discuss, it is deep dive stuff that NEVER comes up in political discord unless both candidates are versed and skilled and that is the narrative. It is the kind of stuff I was sour on Romney about when he was running, that his background and thought process was corporatist and not what was good for society blah blah...that kind of discussion will not come up because neither of these two are going to go down that path.
Trump is no more versed and skilled at deep dive economics than Pence was, that is not their wheel house so Trump cannot exploit an alleged weakness as you see it (I do not share that view personally) because he is not strong in these areas.
Trump is strong in talking about himself, puffing himself up, making hokey slogans and laughing at people...his target is the abuse and put downs not who is best to serve as Treasury secretary or the impacts of economic theory on the future of our society. If that is the kind of discussion and focus you want then Trump is NOT your guy to forward it.

@BWS77
It is telling that Trump who is never quiet, never in the B chair of discussion seems to be sitting back not knowing what to do and how to work his toxic magic against Harris. Maybe he is letting her have her moment and will come in later but the staunch RNC media outlets look like a clown show trying to put her down, the stuff they are digging up is laughable and amateur, it almost makes them look more pathetic than they really are.
I think you are right, the TRUMP political machine (formerly known as the RNC) placed an all-in bet on old man Biden and now their insult/attack ammo stash is zero, they are likely beating the bushes looking for ways to smear her and also not offend in the process...they did not expect this move it caught them completely flat footed.

@wallstreetcappers
I disagree. It will always come down to the economy and folk's pocketbook.
Quite obviously, Trump's campaign will 'go down that road'. It is their most well-paved road to take.
Yes, it will absolutely come up. When you look at the donors Harris is getting right now, you have to ask how much of their bidding she will be obligated to.
This, almost by definition, will isolate the average person that is antithetical to big business -- almost, solely, due to the Left's positioning.
This will put Harris in an awkward spot.
She cannot allow the Republicans to tie her into knots over this. It is too easy to do if she stays on the current path.
She has to address the economic issues better. This will be far more crucial to the voters that are going to matter in those states.,
When there are obvious records to compare -- it will not matter whether Trump is better versed in it or not. The numbers are what they are and people's sentiments are what they are. Quite obviously, Trump is far more versed in this area -- he has already demonstrated it. That is why she has to figure a way to distance herself from Bidenomics without abandoning it totally. Therefore, the 'rebranding' of sorts is what seems to be happening.
Whether folks fall for it or not is another issue.

All Trump has to do is let Harris speak, he doesn't need to say anything about her, she'll dig her own hole when she opens her mouth. If the Dems let her speak off the cuff, she'll embarrass herself. The only time she sounds coherent is when she has a pre planned speech. When she has to speak off the top of her head she just goes in circles about off topic speaking points. It's so embarrassing listening to her speak when she doesn't have a planned speech. Which is exactly why the Dems kept her hidden for the last 4 years.
On a side note, you don't sound like a mod. You sound pretty one sided in this thread.

Honest question hoping for an honest answer. Had you known that Biden wouldn't be in the race, would you support Harris? Who would you want to see in this position if the DNC had enough time to find a candidate?

Arizona republic reveals republican mayor of Mesa endorsing Harris for president because of democrats commitment to country over party. Significant reforms to immigration that would have addressed border crisis were blocked by Trump because he didn't want the problem solved. He wanted to exploit it for political gain. In contrast, Biden administration delivered on jobs and infrastructure. Harris fights for Americans to get ahead, be safer from gun violence and protect the rights of women. However Trump could exact dangerous project 2025 agenda if elected and roll back freedoms.

I also thought there would be a big post-shooting bump for Trump before leveling off but that never happened. As someone else said earlier, that shooting may as well have happened 6 years ago because the news cycle has left it in the dust. I think the thought of getting rid of both Trump and Biden has brought new life to the election. We know we won't be 'rid' of Trump but a loss this time will put a fork in his future Presidential hopes for sure. After that we'll see how the remnants of MAGA evolves/devolves once the head is cut off the snake. I look forward to some normalcy in the future.

I didnt have a candidate that was in the queue I felt was awesome so Harris is likely right there for what was available. I would have felt Michelle to be the top choice for a variety of reasons but I didnt think she would go for it.
Harris is a solid candidate, better than Biden and does more for more in society than Biden and of course Trump. I have zero issues with her as a candidate.

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Let the circus begin. I really hope she has debates and does not get the questions given to her beforehand. I really hope both candidates get put on the spot. It would be nice for the future POTUS to be able to speak off the cuff. Obama was one of the best speakers I can remember, I wish our candidates can follow suit.

My point to you and Raiders is that to have political discussion both have to be open to the discussion and have depth to engage in it. I do not see Trump as someone who is motivated or skilled at discussions of depth, he starts most every discussion and within a few minutes of prompt words or planned speech prep he reverts back to his neural pathways and what he feels confident and comfortable, that is him and usually about general adjectives without specifics.
I think Harris can hold her own on most topics and has a decent level of depth on most topics, I am not sure that since Trump is controlling the narrative of your party that the direction he wishes to go is to topics of depth...it is not his forte so I would be surprised if we got a discussion that got to topics of depth and had substance. Trump is not a candidate of depth and substance, so if he is not confident in depth I dont see him going there.
