I don't really get this minimum wage issue. Have these democratic candidates never taken an economics course. When raise the minimum wage to $15/hr from around 8$ your almost doubling minimum wage. Where do they think this money is going to come from. Companies have margins. In order to cover ttheir rising labor cost they're going to do 1 of 2 things. Raise the prices of their products or service, or lay off employees. The money to cover the rise in wages isn't going to appear out of thin air. So a company like McDonald's will go towards the kiosk route like Sheetz to reduce their labor force. So all these people complaining about their pay will end up losing their jobs. OR.. McDonald's is going to raise the prices of all their food and the lower class (the one's who are probably making minimum wage) won't be able to afford these products now. McDonald's is just one example. I'm just kinda confused how they think this is going to be a good thing for the lower class. Maybe I'm missing something.
I read an article from Forbes that discussed the issue. They've done the calculations and the price adjustment isn't as drastic as people think. What's more likely to happen is that some businesses won't be able to sustain their business model based on the current expenditures.
However, an economist interviewed about the subject suggested that sometimes those models are bad business models and overall the market will adjust and move on. I'm not the one to argue with about it. It's just true in general that Americans are making less money on average right now than they were a decade ago. People should be frustrated.

This is how I feel. Job pay is relative. If minimum wage is raised pretty soon police officers and fire fighters who make $17-$18 an hour are going to ask for a raise. Then the next career level up will get a raise and so on. Eventually everyone will be making twice as much, prices for goods and services will be twice as much and minimum wage positions will be stuck in the same situation as they are now. These positions are not meant to be careers. Most don't require any type of skill. That's why they are MINIMUM WAGE positions. But trying to explain anything regarding money to democrats is like explaining something to a wall. Similar to explaining anything about the environment to republicans. Stan is exactly correct. The minimum wage increase is nothing more than an artificial gimmick that will have little effect other than significant inflation.
If McDonald's is now paying 7.5 to its entry level workers and is then required to pay them 15 an hour, what effect will this then have on the other workers. McDonalds will have to give the other workers comparable raises and this will have the ripple effect for all businesses (including govt jobs). McDonald's can then only stay in business by raising prices.
Despite the above reality, u would think that Bernie is the second coming for making this a platform. Ironically, it is the places who can most afford it (Seattle, California, etc) who r shouting the loudest, but as always, others will feel the brunt of any change

Since 2015, there has been increasing money gambled on Clinton for President. She remains a strong favorite in gambling markets which have proven to be more accurate than public polls in predicting election results according to research at various universities. So far, gambling markets have been mostly right in State nomination elections.

I think business owners would be wise to consider reviewing their current models and figuring out how to absorb the changes. Trump is going to argue her about it anyway so we can all have a discussion after the first general debate. In fact, I can predict several of the main topics that'll be contentious between them.

With the candidates pretty clear as of last night.... I thought I would post about the election. My biggest bet of my lifetime was on Obama in 2008, as posted here at covers - and I have been on the right side the last 4 elections.
I am going to make this simple. I always go back to math. Sure if you watch the CNNs or Fox News of the world- you will hear really anything you want to hear. But there is one simple truth that gets drowned out in all the noise:
The US voting demographic has changed drastically in the last 20 years.
If you are a Republican running for President in 2016, you start a 100 yard dash 200 yards from the finish line. Democrats start with a 242-180 electorate lead before the race even starts because of states who are already decided. You only need 270 to win. These states are Florida, Ohio, Virginia, NC, Iowa, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, and NH. You might argue Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are on that list too, although that is probably a stretch.
There are only a handful of states that decide elections - and since the Dem is only 28 electoral votes away from winning - it means that the Dem could win Florida alone out of all of the swing states and still win the election.
The math just isnt there for Trump. He has to almost clean sweep the swing states - which is a bigger longshot than his current betting odds suggest.
In the coming months you will hear polls - and you will hear opinions. There is only one thing that matters - can Trump win the states listed above? Can he win almost all of them?
I missed the boat several times with Clinton at better odds. And laying close to -300 now doesnt excite me either - but I still think she should be about -800 or so.
