The Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks continue their series tonight at Chase Field after the hosts earned a walk-off win on Friday night.
Toronto will respond by sending Jose Berrios to the mound, though the right-hander has struggled down the stretch, having allowed nine runs through his first two starts of July.
Find out why my Blue Jays vs Diamondbacks predictions expect the Jays starter to continue to struggle in our MLB picks for Saturday, July 13.
Blue Jays vs Diamondbacks prediction
My best bet
Diamondbacks team total Over 4.5 runs (-103 at PROLINE+)
My analysis
The Arizona Diamondbacks plated just two runs through the first seven innings of Friday’s contest against the Toronto Blue Jays. Still, the bats came to life late as Alek Thomas notched a two-RBI single in the eighth before Geraldo Perdomo hit a walk-off sac fly in the ninth to seal the win.
Arizona is averaging 6.40 runs per game over its last 10 contests while scoring at least five runs in seven of those outings. I’ll look for the D-backs to score at least five more tonight as they take on the scuffling Jose Berrios.
Berrios started the season on fire but has seen his play take a nosedive since mid-June. The right-hander owns a 6.21 ERA through his last five starts and has been even worse to start July, allowing a combined nine 12 hits, three homers, and nine earned runs over 11 innings of work for a 7.36 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.
The Blue Jays starter has given up at least one homer in seven straight games (11 total over that span) and 21 dingers in total this season — the most of any pitcher in the majors. While the Diamondbacks don’t particularly rely on the long ball, they’ve got one of the MLB’s top power hitters in Christian Walker, whose 22 dingers are tied for seventh in the majors.

My best bet
George Springer Over 1.5 hits (+180 at PROLINE+)
It looks like the summer of George is in full effect as George Springer kept his hot streak going in Friday’s series opener with two hits, including a triple. The Jays right fielder saw his batting average tumble as low as .188 in June, but he has since bumped it back up to .225 thanks to a scintillating start to July.
Springer is batting .300 this month with hits in eight of 11 outings. He has also notched multiple knocks in two of his last three games and four of his last eight appearances.
